Jefferson Starship comes to Niswonger Performing Arts Center,
March 11, 7:30 PM.

When founding member Paul Kantner formed Jefferson Starship in the 70s, he envisioned the band as a cast of musical adventurers, contributing to his epic concept albums and eventual deep catalog of rock classics. When the current lineup of the band came together alongside Kantner as a unit in 2012, with many members joining years before, he couldn’t have imagined that the band would become the road-conquering heroes they’ve been in the last few years.

Jefferson Starship’s five members describe themselves as both a “family” and a “gang,” and that comes across in talking to them, and in their robust live performances, which have taken them to all 50 U.S. states, five continents, and too many countries to list, drawing from a massive setlist of hit after hit. In addition to original member David Freiberg, the band includes drummer Donny Baldwin, keyboardist Chris Smith, guitarist Jude Gold, and singer and guitarist Cathy Richardson.

Bill and the Belles is a Johnson City, TN-based band known for combining a stringband format with their signature harmonies, candid songwriting, and pop sensibilities. Their delightfully deadpan new album, Happy Again, is full of life, humor, and tongue-in-cheek explorations of love and loss. Bill and the Belles is Kris Truelsen on guitar, fiddler Kalia Yeagle, banjo/banjo-uke player Aidan VanSuetendael, and bassist Andrew Small. The group has a knack for saying sad things with a bit of a smirk, and anyone who’s been to one of their shows can attest that you leave feeling lighter and refreshed. This is a band that revels in the in-between: deeply engaged with the string band tradition and eager to stretch those influences to a contemporary setting. A timeless place where Jimmie Rodgers and Phil Spector can overlap, and a driving fiddle and banjo tune makes way for a sentimental parlor song. And while Bill and the Belles’ latest chapter offers a bigger, moodier, and more decade-ambiguous sound, they maintain their status as the most refreshing string band around.

Join Historic Ramsey House for a dive into a special look at a selection from our quilt and coverlet collection! Sit for a lecture by special guest, internationally renowned quilt historian and author Merikay Waldvogel as she guides us through the stories and unique aspects of our quilt and coverlet collection. After the program, we invite you to stick around for quilt'n'tell, as participants are encouraged to bring a quilt for Mrs. Waldvogel to share her knowledge on the hidden insights regarding the history, age, and importance of your quilt or coverlet.

Tickets are $18 for general public, and $15 for Ramsey house Members!

Merikay Waldvogel is an internationally known quilt historian, author, and lecturer. She is widely considered an expert on mid-20th century quilts. Her expertise and tireless research into quilting and the quilters who made them led to her induction into the Quilters Hall of Fame in 2009. Author of “Childhood Treasures: Doll Quilts By And For Children (2008)”, “Southern Quilts: Surviving Relics of the Civil War (1998)”, “Patchwork Souvenirs of the 1933 World’s Fair (1993)”, “Soft Covers for Hard Times: Quilt making and the Great Depression (1990)”, and “The Quilts of Tennessee: Images of Domestic Life Prior to 1930 (1986).
