Knoxville-based Red-Haired Mary delivers Irish and other Celtic songs and tunes, sometimes in the Irish language and often in three-part harmony. Members of the band include Nancy Acuff, flute, tin whistle and vocals; Alycia Petrone, fiddle; Terry Schomer, bouzouki, guitar, mandolin, bodhran and bones; Margaret Scanlan, keyboards and vocals; and Tom Scanlan, bass, bodhran and vocals.

Join quilting instructor, Misty Anderson, to create the beautiful Ramsey House Appalachian Quilt Trail block, a "Square in a Square". The class includes all the tools and materials needed and is a great way to enter into the world of quilting, or to hone your skills and make a wonderful quilt square. In the class, you will learn the basics of hand piecing, no previous skills are necessary.

Misty has been an avid quilter for most of her life. One of many crafters in her family, she enjoys all types of textile-based art forms including quilting, felting and doll making. Why hand piecing? There is something incredibly satisfying about holding fabric, needle, and thread in your hands and building something step-by-step.

A educator by profession, Misty finds great joy in helping people who might think they're not creative find the artsy spark she believes lives in all of us. She has taught various classes at shops across East TN, schools, and the Historic Ramsey House for several years.

Our annual Spring Hike is a great opportunity to shed the winter blahs, make new friends, and explore Tennessee State Parks' natural side. Whether you are looking for a short nature trail or an adventurous, all-day endeavor through a park's most remote stretches, you'll find what you're looking for at a Tennessee State Park. All hikes will be guided by park staff who can speak to the natural, cultural, and historical treasures that Tennessee State Parks has to offer. From the cypress swamps of the Mississippi River in West Tennessee to the rugged ridge tops and waterfalls in the middle of the state to the majestic mountains in the East, every park showcases a unique piece of Tennessee’s outdoor beauty. Kolaj Magazine is a quarterly, printed, art magazine reviewing and surveying contemporary collage with an international perspective. The publication explores collage as a medium, a genre, a community, and a 21st century art movement. Critical reviews and essays are cut and pasted with artist profiles, event highlights, and articles on techniques and materials. Kolaj is published in Montreal, Quebec by Maison Kasini.

ABOUT "MYTHICAL LANDSCAPE: SECRETS OF THE VALE"—
“The peaceful valley,” wrote William Wilson in 1904, “appears to have had a peculiar attraction for beings supernatural; and for generations its bosky glens and leafy braes have been the reputed haunt of ghosts, fairies, witches, and other beings of an uncanny kind. This sweet, pastoral vale in its nine miles course can boast of scenery unequaled in its quiet beauty, possessing in its woods and waters, its hazelly glens and green-clad hills, everything that can contribute to the making of the finest landscape, while to increase the charm it abounds in the most romantic tales of byegone days.” Sanquhar is a village on the River Nith, up from Dumfries, down from Glasgow, a former Royal Burgh, home to the world’s oldest working post office and the oldest curling society. The Crichton Family ruled the land from the time of Robert the Bruce until they threw such a lavish party for James VI and I in 1617 that they went bankrupt. A monument in town is dedicated to Covenanters who fought against government interference in religious affairs. A forge on Crawick Water made shovels and other tools. A carpet factory boasted fifty-four working looms at the height of production. Saint Bride’s Church, the Tolbooth, sheep grazing the fields, the castle ruins, rabbits in Queensberry Square. What stories does this mythical landscape hold? “Mythical Landscape: Secrets of the Vale” is an exhibition by an international group of artists, all of whom traveled to Sanquhar to investigate a sense of place and make artwork that speaks to the rich history and folklore of the region. Artworks reference stories from the past (true or otherwise) and consider the history of the region. Many of the works were shown at MERZ Gallery during Sanquhar’s Festival of Folklore, 22-25 September 2022. The artwork will be the subject of a film by David Rushton and used to illustrate a forthcoming, abridged version of William Wilson’s 1904 book, Folk Lore and Genealogies of Uppermost Nithsdale.

We are honored that the owners of these gardens have opened their property to the public as a part of our annual celebration of East Tennessee's natural beauty. Tours are self-guided; although Dogwood Arts staff & volunteers will be on-site for questions. A $5 donation per garden is suggested. Donations allow us to maintain and expand the Dogwood Trails & Gardens Program.

Savage Garden

Savage Garden was inspired by Arthur Savage’s visit to his native England. He then began building stone walls, ponds, arbors, and multiple follies. Savage became known as “the father of rock gardening in Knoxville.” The garden is quirky and eclectic, combining multiple themes. Although the main arbors and pagoda reflect a Japanese influence, the latter is topped with a “Dutch Girl” weather vane and there are two “Irish” water towers. After many years of extensive restoration, including rebuilding stone walls and borders, constructing faithful copies of the original arbors and gates, and planting thousands of trees, shrubs, and perennials, Savage Garden is once again the kind of magical place envisioned by Arthur Savage. Winter reveals the extensive bones, or structures, of Savage Garden and features thousands of snowdrops, daffodils, wood hyacinths, and other flowering bulbs. Savage Garden is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

In the CBT Lab Theatre

No men. No boats. All adventure! In this true(ish) retelling of the 1869 Grand Canyon expedition, a one-armed captain and a crew of loyal volunteers set out to chart the course of the Colorado River.

Behind the Scenes Sunday will take place following the March 19 following the matinee. A Talk Back will take place Sunday, March 26th following the matinee. The Open Captioned performance is Sunday, April 2nd at 2:00 pm.

Ashlee Latimer (Director) is a writer, producer, and director focused on creating work that supports and celebrates young people of all ages.

Marble City Opera will produce 3 American operas for their 2022-2023 season. The season’s focus is strong women, and each opera will be performed in English.

This opera, composed in 2019, follows Ada, Countess of Lovelace and Lord Byron's daughter, who has been asked to help Charles Babbage with his work on the Difference Engine. She struggles between her work in mathematics and upholding her reputation as a wife, mother, and public figure. This is the first opera by a contemporary female composer to be produced in Knoxville, TN, and the production is led by a female creative team.
