There is nothing final about the subscription series season finale! “Transformation & Triumph” is dedicated to the necessary and continual transformation of society — globally, nationally, and locally. Plan to attend special community events leading up to what will be a historical and moving performance by the full Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra in music by Arthur Roberts and Dmitri Shostakovich, with the Oak Ridge Chorus and special guest choruses joining for the Tennessee premiere of “Seven Last Words of the Unarmed” by rising composer Joel Thompson. The Performing Arts Center at Oak Ridge High School provides the community setting for this concert.

The Smoky Mountain Blues Society will once again present live music with its continuation of our monthly River Cruises of 2023. This month’s second performance will feature the Ray Fuller and The Bluesrockers on the Tennessee Riverboat on Sunday, April 28th at 4 pm – 7 pm.

Learn more about the historic Pleasant Forest Cemetery in Farragut and those buried there at Living History at Pleasant Forest Cemetery, presented by the Town of Farragut Museum Committee and the Arts and Beautification Committee. The event is from 1:30-4 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at the cemetery, located at the intersection of South Campbell Station Road and Concord Road.

Experience the history of the Concord and Farragut communities from the perspective of several of the cemetery’s historically-significant inhabitants. Local performers will portray these noteworthy individuals, like Nancy Galbreath, who cared for wounded Union and Confederate Civil War soldiers, and Limon Bacon, a school bus driver and caretaker at Old Concord School.

The Museum of Appalachia will welcome the warmth and renewal of spring by trimming the winter’s heavy growth of wool from their flock of sheep. Visitors are invited to join the museum, a Smithsonian affiliate, in celebration of this beloved pioneer tradition on April 26, May 3, and May 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Sheep Shearing Days will include demonstrations of shearing, herding, carding, spinning, and weaving the fleece into woven goods, plus many real-life examples of some of the many finished products derived from the freshly shorn wool. Family-friendly activities will also include live Appalachian music and historic demonstrations of quilting, soap making, rug hooking, pottery, beekeeping, blacksmithing, and much more.

Admission includes a tour of the Museum, which contains some three-dozen historic log structures, exhibit halls filled with thousands of Appalachian artifacts, working gardens, and farm animals.

A three-credit-hour course, the BFA Capstone allows studio art majors to engage in a self-initiated research project to demonstrate that a graduating senior has learned and can practice the skills and concepts of a chosen concentration (2D, 3D, or 4D Art). The Capstone also demonstrates the students’ ability to intellectualize and articulate issues and ideas about contemporary art. Successful completion of the Capstone course is a requirement of graduation.
