Category: Exhibitions, visual art, Free event, Lecture, panel and Meetup

Eco Printing on Textiles
Art Guild Meeting at the Yacht Club top floor 10 AM; Coffee at 9:45

Join us to hear Debbie Alley share her journey as a textile artist, a look into the art of eco-printing and how the process works, and samples of her work. Debbie is a fiber artist living in Knoxville, Tennessee. Her passion for painting and eco-printing on silk and paper moves her to experiment with color and texture and she finds that her favorite place to create is where nature, science, and artistic expression come together. Debbie fell in love with fiber arts as a young girl while learning to sew under the artistic eye of her grandmother. She learned to experiment and embrace creativity and push the boundaries with design. She spent many hours selecting fabrics and patterns and putting them together for a design that was unique and beautiful.

Her former creative textile endeavors have included silk painting, quilt design and construction, longarm machine quilting, fabric dyeing, eco-printing, mixed media collage, watercolor, and simple bookbinding. She has professional experience in HR with a focus on digital content development, graphic design, and marketing. Debbie recently launched her Lifestyle Textiles Collection of beautiful 100% Kona Cotton eco printed and hand dyed. This is the first step in the expansion of her brand into the home interior space.

Her work can be found at:
• The District Gallery in Knoxville
• Artisan Woodworking and Design Gallery, Knoxville

Oak Ridge Playhouse: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Category: Music and Theatre

Oak Ridge Playhouse closes out its eighty-first season of shows in technicolor with an exciting revamp of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s beloved masterpiece, JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT.

From dreams to destiny, this is the extraordinary story of Joseph. Witness his meteoric rise from favored son to betrayed brother, from prisoner to right-hand man. Blessed with prophetic dreams and one very colorful garment, experience Joseph’s dazzling journey like you’ve never seen before.

With funky choreography, mesmerizing disco sounds, and hypnotic tales told through nightclub glitterati, this new spin celebrates the 1970’s in all its groovy glory. The infectious melodies of iconic hits like ‘Any Dream Will Do’, ‘Close Every Door’, and ‘Go, Go, Go Joseph’ thump into the late-night hours.

JOSEPH… has seen several different Broadway & West End revivals, national tours, even a film, but in this version by visionary director Reggie Law, the story peaks in the late seventies at the height of Studio 54. Bringing a new twist to a classic tale, this is a theatrical experience that invites audiences to let loose, have fun, and dance the night away.

Leading the live orchestra is musical director Braxton Chase Kiser. Purchase online at www.orplayhouse.com, or by calling the Box Office at (865) 482-4877, Tuesday – Friday, noon – 5:00 p.m.

Tennessee Stage Company: Shakespeare on the Hill - Much Ado About Nothing

Category: Science, nature and Theatre

Spring is here and so is Shakespeare On the Hill – our spring collaboration with the Mabry-Hazen House. This year’s play will be our longtime favorite Much Ado About Nothing playing in the glorious springtime from May 9 – 19, outdoors at the Mabry-Hazen House. We had such a gloriously good time with our first two Mabry-Hazen collaborations, Kings and Crowns in 2022 and Richard II in 2023 and we are so looking forward to presenting our favorite comedy.

This most perfect romantic comedy centers on Shakespeare's wittiest lovers, Beatrice and Benedick: two people determined to avoid the foolishness of love at all costs. Verbal sparks between these two light the fire for some of Shakespeare's best writing. Along the way, we meet young lovers, chaos-causing villains, and Shakespeare's answer to the Three Stooges: Dogberry and The Watch. Of course, like all good comedies, everyone ends up with their Happily Ever After -- more or less. "But for which of my good parts did you first suffer love for me?"

Our 2024 Knoxville Shakespeare on the Hill production will be produced at the gazebo on the grounds near the Julia Meek Guest House. We will have some chairs available, but you are encouraged to bring your own outdoor chair.
