In 2005, the self taught artist decided to obtain an art education. She studied oil painting at Woodstock School of Art and attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. The Wichita, KS, native earned an MFA in figure painting at the Academy of Art University, where she has continued to study pastel landscape painting with such notables as Gil Dellinger and Susan Ogilvie. Enjoying plein-air painting in several countries, Diana Dee will show pastels featuring varied landscapes of East Tennessee and Georgia.

Eun-Sook Kim received a B.A. in English literature from Ewha Woman’s University in Seoul, Korea. Accepted into a graduate program at University of Tennessee, she moved to Knoxville, married, and resumed her studies after raising her children, earning an M.F.A. in ceramics in the 1990s. Her award-winning work has been in juried shows nationally and internationally, and shown in area solo exhibitions.. She founded and, for many years, directed both the Corner Gallery and the Upstairs Gallery in Oak Ridge. Kim, who also does Chinese brushstroke painting, leads workshops, teaches, and lectures. Category: Music and Theatre

Rose Center Presents Their First Outdoor Production: The Hobbit the Musical! Join the area's most talented youth as they lead you through Middle Earth!

This enchanting musical begins with a song by the greatest of all witches: Gandalf (Rachel Bass). And as she sings, we hear the spirited marching song of the dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield (David Keck), who pour down the hills surrounding the theater and onto the stage, singing bravely as they come. The reluctant Hobbit hero Bilbo Baggins (Carson Grimes) is asked to join the band, for they can hardly hope to succeed as an unlucky thirteen. Bilbo finally agrees to the adventure! They encounter the dangerous trolls (Brooke Boring, Lindsey Talley, Dean Griffey), then escape into Goblin country where Bilbo finds a gold ring with magical power protected by the infamous Gollum (Britney Newman). Bilbo is cautious and thoughtful but saves them in every crisis, even in the climactic scene with the dragon Smaug (Brooke Boring).

The Hobbit the Musical marks Summer Player's 24th annual summer production. Join us at the Cherokee Park Amphitheatre, July 23-25th at 6PM and July 25 & 26th at 2PM. Cost of admission is only $7 per guest.  Bring your own fold-up chairs or blankets for the performance! Directed by Nathan McGhee. Stage Managed by Candace Moore. Cresthill Cinema Club: Three WWII Era Films

  • July 24, 2015
  • 7:30PM

Category: Film

This summer marks the 70th anniversary of World War II’s end. The CCC will be acknowledging this milestone with three programs of film entertainment from the wartime era. Our salute begins on Friday, July 24 (see attached program). That evening, at 7:30 PM, we’ll be presenting a diverse bill. It will be highlighted by our feature, Hotel Berlin (1945), a powerful drama set in a declining Nazi Germany.

Our July movie reveals the intriguing – and often explosive – goings-on at the ornate Hotel Berlin. The locale is a depressed but bustling one, populated by a motley group of characters. Included among them are a famed stage actress, a Gestapo official, a hunted Resistance member, a disillusioned scientist, and a defecting Nazi general (known as the “Butcher of Kharkov”). Enacting these and other fascinating roles is a large international cast, headed by Andrea King, Henry Daniell, Helmut Dantine, Peter Lorre, Raymond Massey, Faye Emerson, George Coulouris, Kurt Kruger, Alan Hale and Steven Geray. Produced by Warner Brothers, Hotel Berlin is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Vicki Baum; a German Jew who had years earlier risen to literary heights with Grand Hotel.

Hotel Berlin will be preceded by two shorts, far more lighthearted in nature. CCC favorite Vera Vague will take center stage first, starring in the 1944 two-reeler, Strife of the Party – an exercise in inanity, presenting Vera at her wackiest. Ms. Vague and her party will be followed by Hop, Skip and Jump, a 1942 Soundie in which Charlie Spivak and his Orchestra swing the heck out of a super-swell song.

July 24 at 7:30PM
Our location: The spacious clubhouse of the Windover Apartments. The journey there will take you to Cheshire Drive (off Kingston Pike, near the Olive Garden); going down Cheshire, turn right at the Windover Apartments sign, then go to the third parking lot on your right, next to the pool. There, the building that houses the clubhouse and offices of the Windover will be just a few steps away!
