Groucho lives! ... In the person of acclaimed actor Frank Ferrante, who leaves the stage and wanders the audience, sits on laps and pokes good-natured fun at the foibles he finds among them. Mr. Ferrante’s show has earned the admiration of the most demanding theatre audiences in London and New York. An Evening with Groucho will be presented in the William Baxter Lee III Grand Foyer as a dinner theatre event on March 26 at 6:30 p.m. For those who miss the delightful combination of food, drink, and captivating entertainment, An Evening with Groucho will bring back the delights of dinner theatre and an extraordinary show. Tickets are $75 for fine dining and an internationally acclaimed entertainer.

Sign-ups are open for the 2011 Young Writers' Institute on the University of Tennessee Knoxville campus. The 18th annual YWI is a free, one-day event that offers creative writing workshops for high school teachers and their students. Knoxville Writer's Guild president Terry Shaw, author of the novel The Way Life Should Be, will teach a workshop entitled "Lying Well: The Art of Fiction." KWG board members Joshua Robbins and Sean McDougle are also teaching workshops.

The day will consist of breakfast, morning workshops, lunch at UT's Baker Center with musical entertainment by RB Morris, afternoon workshops, and an open-mic session during which students will share their creations.

YWI, directed by Dr. Marilyn Kallet, UT professor of English, and co-directed by Dr. Jessie Janeshek, lecturer of English, is completely free to all teacher and student participants. Public Program: House Mountain: Singles Walk•About: Sat., Mar. 26, 9 a.m.
(Singles only) Join Ijams naturalist Sabrina DeVault for a hike up House Mountain, Knox County’s highest point. It’s a good climb with a great view at the top. (Families) Frogs and toads are not just adorable, albeit odd creatures, but they are environmental indicators. If their populations are declining what does it mean for the rest of us? Join educator Peg Beute and learn what, where and why. The cost is free. Call 577-4717 ext. 10 to register.

"FROM MARY GRAINGER BLOUNT TO MARY BOYCE TEMPLE: THE WOMEN OF BLOUNT MANSION"
The event will feature Dr. Joan Markel presenting “Social Life in a Time of Civil War; Entertaining at Blount Mansion,” which will be illustrated with period photographs and primary documents; Dr. Patricia Brake Rutenberg presenting “From Mary Grainger Blount to Mary Boyce Temple: the Women of Blount Mansion,” which will be illustrated with period costumes, illustrations, photographs, and primary documents; an afternoon tea; and herbs for sale.

Blount Mansion was the home of William Blount, a signer of the Constitution for North Carolina, governor of the Southwest Territory, and one of Tennessee’s first Senators. Blount Mansion is the only National Historic Landmark in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The event will cost $10. Proceeds will support Blount Mansion Association’s educational programming. Reservations must be made by March 23 to attend.

Approximately 225 pedigreed cats and 20 household cats will make up the 25 different breeds of cats that will strut around Chilhowee Park’s Jacob Building. This family-friendly event will also feature more than 15 vendors with cat-themed novelty items and supplies.

The CFA Cat Show is open to the public. Individuals who do not have pedigreed cats but want to participate in the show may enter their pet into the Household Pets Division.

Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and students, and children under 6 are free. General Admission - $5.00

One of the oldest student competitions in the United States, the exhibit will feature juried artworks in all media. The exhibit will open with a reception and awards ceremony on Friday, March 25, from 7:00-9:00 pm. The reception, which is free and open to the public, will feature live music and food donated by Knoxville-area establishments.
