Ben Sollee first emerged with his inviting 2008-debut Learning to Bend which showcased a wild mixture of musical approaches that Ben describes as “classically influenced folk with leanings of R&B and soul.” With his newest project, Inclusions, Ben Sollee seeks to intertwine his music with art and life, bridging genres and demographics with earnest, dynamic songwriting and passionate performances. Knoxville, TN 4/17/11 — A1LabArts is happy to announce its Spring Member Show, titled “Animal-Vegetable-Mineral” at 8 Shooters Gallery. Opening reception will be held on May 6, from 7-930PM.

A1LabArts hosts two members show each year. This spring, the theme of the show is “Animal-Vegetable-Mineral.” Always surprising, A1LabArts has chosen this theme to inspire members works that reflect the diversity of the natural world, at the time of year when the abundance of that world is at its peak.

East Tennessee Historical Society: A Film Screening of The Mysterious Lost State of Franklin Presented by PBS

The East Tennessee Historical Society’s First Friday Event, will feature special screenings of the East Tennessee PBS film, The Mysterious Lost State of Franklin. Showings are at 5:15 p.m., 6:15 p.m., and 7:15 p.m. in the East Tennessee History Center Auditorium.

The frontier section of the Voices of the Land: The People of East Tennessee exhibit will be open for visitors to learn more about the history of Franklin in the context of the period in which it existed. Artifacts from the time are the key to the log cabin that served as the State of Franklin capitol in Greeneville, Davy Crockett’s first gun, a road wagon, survey compass and chain, an Indian trade rifle, and much, much more.

The East Tennessee Technology Access Center: Traumatic Brain Injury and Brain Trauma

The East Tennessee Technology Access Center will host a two-day workshop on Traumatic Brain Injury and Brain Trauma May 5th and 6th in Oak Ridge at the UT-Battelle Information Center, 1201 Oak Ridge Turnpike near the intersection to Rutgers Avenue.

Dr. Timothy Urbin, a neuropsychologist from Quillen College of Medicine, will speak from 9:00 am to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 5th on understanding changes to the brain, the person, the family, and the future when the brain receives an injury.

Elizabeth Power, the CEO of EPower and Associates, Inc., will speak from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 on May 6th about how organizations, families and individuals can create a caring and supportive environment for people with brain trauma. From 1:00 to 3:30, Alice Wershing, educational technology coordinator for ETTAC will demonstrate assistive technology supports for people with brain injuries and trauma.

The workshop is free and open to anyone who has an interest in learning about traumatic brain injuries, but registration is required by Friday, April 29th. Please call (865) 219-0130. Participants may register for one or both days. Lunch will only be served on Thursday,May 5th.
