Tennessee Stage Company: Shakespeare at Lawson McGhee Library

3563.jpg

Category: Lecture, panel and Theatre

The Tennessee Stage Company and Shakespeare On The Square invite you to read Shakespeare’s plays with us – out loud!

Once a month we will gather to read one of the plays of William Shakespeare.

IT’S FREE AND FUN!
Readings are at the Lawson McGee Library on the second Saturday of each month. Readings are free and open to the public. Hearing these plays read aloud offers much more insight into the depths of Shakespeare’s work.

We will meet at 2:00 pm. There will be twelve chairs set up and whoever wants to read out loud can choose one of the twelve chairs. There will be additional seating for anyone who wants to read along silently. We will take a fifteen minute break in the middle of each play. Some copies of the play will be available but please bring your own if possible.

Our first reading will be Saturday, October 8, and we’ll start with “The Two Gentlemen of Verona” one of Shakespeare’s very early comedies. Come to the first reading and help plan the rest of the series. We’ll let you tell us what you’d like to hear next.

Bijou Theatre: The Civil Wars

Category: Music

In some ways, music doesn’t get much more modest or minimalist than it is in the hands of The Civil Wars, a duo comprised of California-to-Nashville transplant Joy Williams and her Alabaman partner, John Paul White. They travel without a backup band, and on their first full-length album, Barton Hollow, the bare-bones live arrangements that fans hear on the road are fleshed out with just the barest of acoustic accoutrements.

Category: Festivals, special events, Kids, family and Music

John Carter Cash (son of Johnny & June Carter Cash) and Dale Jett (Janette Carter’s son) will perform on Saturday, October 8, at the Museum of Appalachia ’s 32nd Annual Tennessee Fall Homecoming—truly a unique opportunity for festival-goers since the band rarely performs.

The Carter Family III’s latest CD, Past and Present, is a collection of signature Carter family songs as well as new music composed by Cash and Jett. They’ll be joined by other musicians, including Laura Cash, wife of John Carter Cash and an accomplished fiddler and singer.

John Carter Cash will return to the Homecoming on Sunday to present and autograph his new book, House of Cash, two days before its international release. This fascinating book is an intimate portrait of his father, country music legend Johnny Cash, told through father-son conversations, previously unpublished photographs, recollections, lyrics, and other materials from the family archives.

Tickets are available at the gate. The Museum is located on I-75 at exit 122, then one mile east. For more information, call 865-494-7680, or visit www.museumofappalachia.org.
