Marble Springs: Halloween Storytelling

Tennessee Mountain Writers: Fall Workshop

Tennessee Mountain Writers will present "Finding Your Funny Bone," a half-day humor-writing workshop by humor columnist Judy DiGregorio at the United Way of Anderson County office, 161 Robertsville Road, Oak Ridge. The registration fee of $40 includes coffee, tea, soft drinks and morning snacks. Participation is limited to 18.

UT Pregame Showcase: Lecture on Christians' Responses to the Koran

The Pregame Showcase is a free lecture series two hours before kickoff in the University Center Ballroom (Room 213) on home game days, featuring 45-minute presentations by award-winning teachers of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Tom Burman, Professor in the Department of History, speaks about "Christians' Reactions to the Koran in History."

The Pregame Showcase is free and open to the public. Complimentary light refreshments are provided, and members of the audience who register are eligible for door prize drawings at the end of each presentation and discount coupons for purchases from the University Center Bookstore.

Mighty Mud: Surface Treatments and Finishing Techniques Workshop

Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center: Cub Scout Day

Cub Scout Day is scheduled for Saturday, October 29, from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM and is open to all Cub Scouts, with activities Scouts can do with their families or their troops. These activities will help Scouts earn their badge of rank, complete some electives, and make progress toward academics and sports pins.

Some of the activities scheduled: make a piece of Native American style clay pottery; learn how a telegraph works and send a message using Morse Code; learn how to start a fire safely, the old-fashioned way; build a child-size log cabin with other members of your pack; shoot at a target using a Cherokee blowgun; play old-fashioned games and make your own toy to take home.

Knoxville Opera: La Traviata

Highlighting the list of soloists are cast members from Knoxville Opera’s production of Verdi’s La Traviata including Metropolitan Opera soprano Joyce El-Khoury (star of KO’s 2009 Pagliacci) returns to sing the legendary Violetta, Zachary Borichevsky debuts as the heart-broken Alfredo, and Kevin Thompson. Also featured are Yvonne Andrews, Denisha Ballew, Evelyn Jack, Horace Smith and, of course, The Knoxville Opera Gospel Choir.
