The Knoxville Museum of Art presents Several Silences March 16-May 20, 2012.
Several Silences presents installations, videos, sculptures, and drawings by a diverse selection of contemporary artists from around the world who approach the theme of silence in distinctly individual ways. This group exhibition explores various kinds of silence—meditative, ambient, memorial, etc.—and calls attention to the rarity of the absence of sound in our growing “culture of distraction.”

There will be an opening reception Thursday, March 15 from 5:30-7:30pm at the KMA. Free and open to the public. Cash bar.

A world premiere play of a murder mystery by Knoxville playwright Craig Smith. The play has strong language; young people would need to be accompanied by an adult. Seats are first come, first served (up to 50 per performance).

Join us for this interactive arts event connecting the community with fiber arts activities. The festival will include fiber animal exhibitions, Marketplace of Vendors, classes, educational demonstrations of spinning, weaving, needlecrafts, dyeing, and many other fiber processes, hands-on projects with children and adults, local artists' work and fiber craft supplies, and information about local fiber activities, groups, businesses, and instructional resources.

Pop icon Richard Marx will join the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra on Friday, March 16 at the Tennessee Theatre. Friday, March 16, from 7-9pm the Smoky Mountain Storytellers will take you to times and places in your head and heart you’ll love to go. There is a feeling in the audience that brings shared stories to life, recalls experiences and events that join those listening together. Our stories bring us together, create our history and our culture. The third Friday every month, different storytellers share their art at Riverside Theater. Located between Knoxville and Maryville, it is a charming renovated church. It is fulfilling the dream of entertainment programs for the whole family. Please be sure to stop by the Nature Center to enjoy the newest photography exhibit in the Visitors Center. This exhibit by the Southern Appalachian Nature Photographers celebrates the beauty of the region while highlighting some of the environmental threats to the region. Ijams Spring Break Camp: Spring Awakenings*
(Grades K-5) Join us for a week of fun and exciting outdoor activities. Each day has a different theme- from ponds and plants to bugs and blooms. Campers may register for individual days or the entire week. The weekly fee is $175 for members and $200 for non-members. The daily fee is $40 for members and $45 for non-members. Held at the Clarence Brown Theatre, the annual concert gives us the opportunity to showcase a broad range of dances and gives both the junior and senior members of the company time to shine. Another exciting aspect of the Spring Concert is the School Performances we offer on the Friday. Student groups are able to come and watch abbreviated shows. This more intimate setting allows more contact between the students and dancers. If you have a group that you would like to bring, please contact our office for more information. Space is limited so please call to make your reservation. Tickets for the school performances are $5 for students with their adult chaperones free.

The Knoxville Watercolor Society presents “Illuminations”—a mix of recent transparent watercolor paintings by the Knoxville Watercolor Society. The Show will be in the downstairs gallery of the Knoxville Museum of Art from March 16 to May 6. An opening reception with refreshments will take place on March 25 from 2 to 4 PM. The Museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 5 Pm and on Sundays from 1 PM to 5 PM and is located at 1050 Worlds Fair Park Drive.
