Art Guild at Fairfield Glade: Budget Art Sale

Discerning shoppers: browse and buy affordable art at the Plateau Creative Arts Center (PCAC). Once a year, members of the Art Guild at Fairfield Glade welcome the public to a Budget Art Sale. This year’s sale is scheduled for Friday, August 10 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Saturday, August 11 from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
At the annual Budget Art Sale, member artists sell selected artwork at costs below original gallery prices. Choose from a wide variety of paintings, sculpture, pottery, jewelry, photography, and more. Find the perfect fit for both your wallet and your décor, or select unique gifts for family and friends.
The Art Guild represents some of the finest artists in Cumberland County. Guild members come from all over the country, and many have enjoyed successful careers in visual arts and art education. At the Budget Art Sale, shoppers can find works by their favorite local Art Guild artists or discover the work of a “new to you†artist.

Tennessee Theatre: 1964 "The Tribute"

1964 “The Tribute†isn't just any Beatles tribute band. The group strives to emulate the performances fans might have seen when the Fab Four were on tour in the '60s, from costume to sound. Their renditions of early Beatles favorites have drawn crowds from all over the world and garnered buzz as the best performers of their kind. Dubbed "the best Beatles tribute ever" by Rolling Stone, this is one you won't want to miss.

Alive After Five: Blue Mother Tupelo

Alive After Five is a unique live music series presented on thirty or more Fridays per year in four seasonal series. The programs take place in the smoke-free, casually elegant setting of the Great Hall in the Knoxville Museum of Art. There is a live band on stage, seating at tables, two cash bars, food from area restaurants, free freshly popped popcorn, free portrait drawing, free parking, and a licensed therapeutic masseuse available. Audience members can enjoy listening to music, dancing, and browsing the museum’s art galleries.
All shows 6:00 - 8:30 PM.

The Athens Area Council for the Arts: Future Divas in Concert

The Athens Area Council for the Arts will present Future Divas in concert in the Sue E. Trotter Theater at The Arts Center on Friday, August 10 at 7:30 PM. All seats are $10.00 and tickets may be purchased in advance and at the door as available.
A diva is defined as a “celebrated female singerâ€, and the seven young women chosen to perform, Aislin Anderson, Cat Beddingfield, Ally Clark, Ashley Clark, Betsy Crabtree, Kinslee Melhorn, and Kyla Royal, are on a path to fulfilling that definition. Their voices range in training from jazz to opera to show tunes to country and western, and the program will feature all of those styles and more. Each of the “future divas†has appeared on local stages and some have received radio airplay.

11 am WILDLIFE PROGRAM: Behind the Scenes with the Ijams Veterinarian
(Ages 5 and up) Get up close and personal with some of Ijams' furred and feathered animal ambassadors! You won't want to miss this unique opportunity to go behind the scenes of our animal care program. You'll get to see how we feed and care for the animals, and you may even have the chance to get nose-to-beak or toe-to-tail with some of our wildlife friends. Due to liability concerns, participants cannot be under 5 years of age. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a paying adult. 9 am - 5:30 pm CHILDREN'S PROGRAM: Youth Photo Camp
(Ages 8-18) This terrific camp includes all day "hands-on" instruction from award-winning professional photographers and a Certified Scout Merit Badge Instructor. Participants will also receive lunch, a photo nature walk at Ijams, and even the opportunity to photograph some of our animal ambassadors! There will also be a print competition with awards and camp souvenir items! Spaces are limited and pre-registration is required. Join Ijams volunteer Lynn Keffer as she reads one A Boy Wants A Dinosaur by Hiawyn Oram and Satoshi Kitamura, first published in 2006. In this case, the dinosaur is a Massospondylus! (Ages 12 and up) Join naturalist Stephen Lyn Bales for a look at the life histories of the owls and woodpeckers that live in Tennessee, everything from the secretive saw-whet owl of the Smokies to the now statewide extinct red-cockaded woodpecker of old pine forests. Arts & Culture Alliance: “Battle of the Mediums: Oil versus Water†by Steve Black and Betty Bullen

The Arts & Culture Alliance is pleased to present a new exhibition of watercolors and oils by local artists Steve Black and Betty Bullen. The exhibition will be displayed in the Balcony at the Emporium Center in downtown Knoxville from August 3-31, 2012, and an opening reception will take place as part of First Friday activities on August 3 from 5:00-9:00 PM. Black and Bullen met through the Tennessee Artist’s Association, and while they have known each other for only for a few years, they have chaired exhibitions and worked on many projects together. “Oil versus Water†is their first exhibition together.

The Arts & Culture Alliance is pleased to present a new exhibition by the Townsend Artisan Guild (TAG) entitled “Destination Townsendâ€, featuring original paintings, photographs, mixed media, sculptures, jewelry, and more by nearly 30 local artists. The exhibition will be displayed at the Emporium Center in downtown Knoxville from August 3-31, 2012, and an opening reception will take place as part of First Friday activities on August 3 from 5:00-9:00 PM.

Theatre Knoxville Downtown: Tuna Does Vegas

Tuna Does Vegas re-unites the lovable and eccentric characters from the "third smallest town in Texas" as they take a rambling romp in Sin City. The hilarity begins when oddball-conservative radio host Arles Struvie announces on air that he and his wife Bertha Bumiller are heading to Vegas to renew their wedding vows ... but everyone in Tuna, Texas goes along for the ride! Written by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard, Tuna Does Vegas features the favorite characters from the award-winningGreater Tuna productions with some new characters too!
Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8:00 PM and Sunday at 3:00 PM. Tickets are $10 plus fees for Thursday & Sunday performances and $15 plus fees for Friday & Saturday performances. UT Downtown Gallery: Figurative Works on Paper

The UT Downtown Gallery is excited to present an upcoming exhibition from the Permanent Collection of the Ewing Gallery of Art and Architecture. August’s exhibition will feature figurative works on paper, including watercolors, drawings, photography, and printmaking. Notable works include: portraits by Chuck Close and Alice Neel, prints by Francisco Goya, Leon Golub, Kathe Kollwitz, Keith Haring, Luis Jiminez, and William Hogarth, and photography by Helmut Newton and Walker Evans. Also in the exhibition will be works from the UT School of Art professors, students, and visiting artists, past and present. These artists are, Baldwin Lee, Don Kurka, F. Clark Stewart, Ruth Weisberg, Eleanor Dickinson, Mark Steinmetz, Ruth Weisberg and Joseph Delaney.
Works will be on display August 3 - August 18, 2012, Wednesday through Friday 11am - 6pm and Saturdays 10am -3pm.

Art Market Gallery: Recent Works by Patricia Herzog and Francie Entz

August 1-September 2, Art Market Galley of Knoxville is pleased to present an exhibit of recent works by Patricia Herzog of Knoxville and Francie Entz of Loudon.
Patricia Herzog, who holds a MS degree in ceramics from UT, will be exhibiting a collection of her recent clay works, some of which include fused-glass elements. She enjoys experimenting with colorful glazes and textures with an emphasis on whimsical animal imagery and the natural environment. Patricia is a member of several regional craft guilds and has been a studio potter since 1978.
Painter Francie Entz will be exhibiting a collection of her recent works in water media. She says that for her “the process of painting--the journey--is the important thing.†Francie aspires to create work that intrigues, captivates, puzzles and that also pleases both herself and the viewer. Member of both the Knoxville and Tennessee Watercolor Societies, her works have been juried into exhibits throughout the US.
A First Friday Reception for the exhibit is planned for August 3 from 5:30-9 pm with complimentary refreshments and live folk-style music performed by Molly Rochelson.
