Tennessee Shines Radio Show presents:
August 13: Chelle Rose and David Olney with Sergio Webb

Loudon County native Chelle Rose’s first album in 12 years is Ghost of Browder Holler, produced by Ray Wylie Hubbard and reviewed in the New York Times by Jon Pareles, who writes, “It’s an album filled with rasp, drawl, twang and tenacity.”

Americana music pioneer and consummate storyteller David Olney will perform songs from his new CD, The Stone. Olney is as prolific a media content creator as he is a songwriter; he maintains the weekly “You Never Know” video series and posts videos of his classic poetry recitations. In 2003, The Los Angeles Times called Olney “the best songwriter you’ve never heard of.” We’ve heard of him, and he’s superb.
Multi-instrumentalist Sergio Webb will perform as sideman to both artists.

Advanced tickets for all shows scheduled for July and August are $10, available now at BrownPaperTickets.com. Remaining tickets are sold at the door on the night of the show, while supplies last. Doors of the Knoxville Visitor Center open at 6:15 p.m. and the show begins promptly at 7 p.m.

In July and August, students get in free by showing their valid student IDs at the door. Children 14 and under accompanied by a parent are admitted free of charge.

The Arts & Culture Alliance is pleased to present a new exhibition of watercolors and oils by local artists Steve Black and Betty Bullen. The exhibition will be displayed in the Balcony at the Emporium Center in downtown Knoxville from August 3-31, 2012, and an opening reception will take place as part of First Friday activities on August 3 from 5:00-9:00 PM. Black and Bullen met through the Tennessee Artist’s Association, and while they have known each other for only for a few years, they have chaired exhibitions and worked on many projects together. “Oil versus Water” is their first exhibition together.

“Battle of the Mediums: Oil versus Water” will be on display at the Emporium Center, 100 S. Gay Street. The UT Downtown Gallery is excited to present an upcoming exhibition from the Permanent Collection of the Ewing Gallery of Art and Architecture. August’s exhibition will feature figurative works on paper, including watercolors, drawings, photography, and printmaking. Notable works include: portraits by Chuck Close and Alice Neel, prints by Francisco Goya, Leon Golub, Kathe Kollwitz, Keith Haring, Luis Jiminez, and William Hogarth, and photography by Helmut Newton and Walker Evans. Also in the exhibition will be works from the UT School of Art professors, students, and visiting artists, past and present. These artists are, Baldwin Lee, Don Kurka, F. Clark Stewart, Ruth Weisberg, Eleanor Dickinson, Mark Steinmetz, Ruth Weisberg and Joseph Delaney.

Works will be on display August 3 - August 18, 2012, Wednesday through Friday 11am - 6pm and Saturdays 10am -3pm.

Join us for a First Friday reception; August 3 from 5pm until 9pm, admission is free.

African Dance class will consist of African dances styles, techniques, songs, and culture. Classes are designed to educate, motivate, and inspire you about the positive awareness of African Cultural Dance as a Whole. Class will consist of a mild warm-up of stretching, cardiovascular endurance, and developing footwork/body mechanics.
