A1 LabArts: Agito Youth Art Show

A1labarts, in conjunction with Agito, is happy to present "I am unique,†Agito’s first comprehensive youth art show. The show features artwork by youth who have participated in Agito’s youth initiatives. Agito sponsors after school youth initiatives serving the Knox County area where students learn photography, video, creative writing, performance poetry and culinary skills in food prep and service awareness. By offering a foundation in leadership building, workforce development, and art therapy ideologies we empower youth through visual, culinary and cultural media arts. Agito’s initiatives are offered as enhancements to existing after school programs.
Opening reception/art show on Saturday, August 4, 3-5 pm. The event will be held at the Center for Creative Minds, 23 Emory Place, across from the Old Gray Cemetery on Broadway, in Knoxville.

Theatre Knoxville Downtown: Tuna Does Vegas

Tuna Does Vegas re-unites the lovable and eccentric characters from the "third smallest town in Texas" as they take a rambling romp in Sin City. The hilarity begins when oddball-conservative radio host Arles Struvie announces on air that he and his wife Bertha Bumiller are heading to Vegas to renew their wedding vows ... but everyone in Tuna, Texas goes along for the ride! Written by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard, Tuna Does Vegas features the favorite characters from the award-winningGreater Tuna productions with some new characters too!
Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8:00 PM and Sunday at 3:00 PM. Tickets are $10 plus fees for Thursday & Sunday performances and $15 plus fees for Friday & Saturday performances. Theatre Knoxville Downtown has open seating. Doors open 30 minutes prior to showtime. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to pick up your tickets and claim your seats. TKD reserves the right to seat walk-in patrons during the final 15 minutes prior to showtime. UT Downtown Gallery: Figurative Works on Paper

The UT Downtown Gallery is excited to present an upcoming exhibition from the Permanent Collection of the Ewing Gallery of Art and Architecture. August’s exhibition will feature figurative works on paper, including watercolors, drawings, photography, and printmaking. Notable works include: portraits by Chuck Close and Alice Neel, prints by Francisco Goya, Leon Golub, Kathe Kollwitz, Keith Haring, Luis Jiminez, and William Hogarth, and photography by Helmut Newton and Walker Evans. Also in the exhibition will be works from the UT School of Art professors, students, and visiting artists, past and present. These artists are, Baldwin Lee, Don Kurka, F. Clark Stewart, Ruth Weisberg, Eleanor Dickinson, Mark Steinmetz, Ruth Weisberg and Joseph Delaney.
Works will be on display August 3 - August 18, 2012, Wednesday through Friday 11am - 6pm and Saturdays 10am -3pm.

Art Market Gallery: Recent Works by Patricia Herzog and Francie Entz

August 1-September 2, Art Market Galley of Knoxville is pleased to present an exhibit of recent works by Patricia Herzog of Knoxville and Francie Entz of Loudon.
Patricia Herzog, who holds a MS degree in ceramics from UT, will be exhibiting a collection of her recent clay works, some of which include fused-glass elements. She enjoys experimenting with colorful glazes and textures with an emphasis on whimsical animal imagery and the natural environment. Patricia is a member of several regional craft guilds and has been a studio potter since 1978.
Painter Francie Entz will be exhibiting a collection of her recent works in water media. She says that for her “the process of painting--the journey--is the important thing.†Francie aspires to create work that intrigues, captivates, puzzles and that also pleases both herself and the viewer. Member of both the Knoxville and Tennessee Watercolor Societies, her works have been juried into exhibits throughout the US.
A First Friday Reception for the exhibit is planned for August 3 from 5:30-9 pm with complimentary refreshments and live folk-style music performed by Molly Rochelson.

Enjoy the evening summer breezes as you cruise around the lake at Mead's Quarry. This fun and relaxed outing includes an enjoyable tour of the lake with Ijams' naturalist Stephen Lyn Bales as he searches for freshwater jellyfish. Plus there will be a boxed dinner that we'll enjoy lakeside. The fee for this program and meal are $25 for members and $30 for non-members. International Fine Arts Academy: West African Dance & Aerobic Class

African Dance class will consist of African dances styles, techniques, songs, and culture. Classes are designed to educate, motivate, and inspire you about the positive awareness of African Cultural Dance as a Whole. Class will consist of a mild warm-up of stretching, cardiovascular endurance, and developing footwork/body mechanics.
