Renowned musician/recording artist, dj, Master percussion and folk-dance instructor Karim Nagi will be in Knoxville September 14th - 16th performing and teaching.

Karim is the headline performer on Friday, September 14th at Relix Variety Theatre 1208 North Central, Knoxville, TN. The show will feature the very best of local and regional artists specializing in dances of the Middle East. Tickets are available at the Holy Land Market, or by calling 865-660-8773.

Karim promotes the study of Arab dance in the USA as the director of the Arab Dance Seminar. A native Egyptian drummer, he has released four internationally distributed CDs of this unique brand of Arab House/Electronica (using acoustic instruments) and has authored instructional DVDs for the Tabla/Doumbek, Riqq tambourine, Maqam & Taqsim, Drum Solo for Dance and Arab Folk Dance.

Karim will be teaching on Saturday and Sunday at the Broadway Academy of Performing Arts, 706 N. Broadway Street, Knoxville, TN 37917. Two-hour workshop sessions planned include: Oum Kalsoum Intros, Arab Folk Dances, Cymbal Song (Finger Cymbal technique) Drummer-Dancer Communication, and Arabic Drum Rhythms (Masmudi, Malfuf, Maghrebi). Mark on your calendar the dates of September 14 and 15 (9 am - 3 pm) for the Plateau Arts Festival located at the Plateau Creative Arts Center, 451 Lakeview Drive (off Peavine) in Fairfield Glade.

Enjoy the fine art displays of Tennessee’s artists…..paintings galore, photography, pottery, jewelry, homemade bread and scrumptious bakery made by Cumberland County’s chefs and bakers in residence.

Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy music by Gene Brown and the Cumberland Mountain Boys. A silent auction, art demonstrations, and book signing authors will round out your experience. Lunch will be served in the PCAC.

Those of you, who are fine art artists and would like to display your creations, outside rental spaces are available at $70 for a 10 X 10 space. Spaces are, also, for rent inside the Multi-Purpose Building at $80 for a 10 X 10 space. Both days are included in the rental cost.

“Days of the Pioneers,” a premier antique show and sale, will make its debut this fall at
the Museum of Appalachia, a Smithsonian affiliate.
With the 65-acre Museum of Appalachia as a backdrop, attendees
can experience the Museum which houses thousands of early American artifacts in their natural setting, and then have the opportunity to purchase similar items from scores of outstanding dealers who will be here from across the country.

The show is set for September 14th and 15th and will feature the finest selection of 18th and 19th century American antiques from 60 of the nation’s premium dealers.
During the show traditional craftsmen will be on the grounds demonstrating their various and centuries-old talents. The venue will also provide mountain music in different locations on the grounds while other areas will highlight Civil War-era soldiers and civilians in their period dress.

Discounted tickets are available through August 17th. They may be purchased at the Museum or online at www.museumofappalachia.org. Tickets will also be available at the gate both days of the show.
Admission includes a tour of the extensive farm, village, and exhibit buildings which are surrounded by split rail fences and filled with thousands of authentic Appalachian artifacts.
The Museum also offers a large gift shop with hand-made items from regional artisans. A small cafe provides “home-cooked” meals, featuring fresh-from-our-garden vegetables, and delicious home-made desserts prepared daily.

The Wild Thyme Players will present “Duels & Desserts 2: Back for Seconds!” on Friday, September 14 beginning at 7:00 PM in the World’s Fair Park Amphitheater. This second annual fundraiser will feature several fight scenes, an original one-act play, a silent auction and baked goods available for purchase.

Students from WTP’s stage combat training program, “Shake, Rattle & Role,” will perform vignettes using various fighting styles and weapons, including broadsword, rapier & dagger, quarterstaff, epee, knife and unarmed stage combat. The second half will present a swashbuckling original short play based on “The Three Musketeers” written by WTP fight choreographer Mark McGinley.

Doors open at 7 PM, and the performance will begin at 8 PM. Admission is free with suggested $5 donation or bake sale purchase. Gift packs with merchandise and gift certificates from various local businesses will be up for bid in the silent auction. A portion of the proceeds will go to TribeOne, a community leadership development organization based in East Knoxville. Media sponsorship is provided by WUOT-91.9 FM. Tennessee Shines Radio Show goes on the road!
Tennessee Shines will do its first-ever road show to perform the show live on the stage of the historic Paramount Theatre on Friday, September 14, at 7 p.m. during the festival’s 12th year.

“Bristol Rhythm and Roots has been a great supporter of Tennessee Shines and WDVX, and we are thrilled that festival organizer Leah Ross has invited us to do the show on such a venerable stage,” says show co-host Paige Travis.

For the third year, WDVX will present a road show edition of its noontime Blue Plate Special show on the Paramount stage on Saturday at 12 p.m.
