Eddie Fisker is the dubious mastermind of the “gizmo” – an all-in-one hand held device that revolutionizes communication. Sound familiar? Anthony Clarvoe’s CTRL+ALT+DELETE eavesdrops on the hot-wired world of high-pressure scheming and the manipulation that accompanies a breakthrough in technology. The production runs October 24 – November 10, 2013 in the Clarence Brown’s Lab Theatre. Very popular at the Box Office, several performances have already sold out. Pitting idealism against the harsh realities of the business world creates a suspenseful and "telling tale" about youthful dreams, ambition, disillusion, and greed in the often cutthroat corporate environment. What ultimately happens in the play offers a glimmer of hope that there is real humanity within the seemingly unforgiving competitive world of big business,” said Director Terry Silver-Alford.

The Appalachian Arts Craft Center in Norris is looking for new members to sell their handmade crafts in the Craft Center shop. Anyone interested in going through the jurying process should pick up a jurying packet at the center and then bring three samples of their work to the center between Monday, October 21 and Friday, November 1 at noon. The jurying will take place on Monday, November 4, and items must be picked up by Thursday, November 12. Each person going through the process must fill out a form and pay a nonrefundable $25 jurying fee. The Appalachian Arts Craft Center is a nonprofit center that has been promoting traditional artists and crafts in the East Tennessee area for over 40 years. Deathtrap by Ira Levin is one of the popular successes of recent Broadway history. The play offers a rare and skillful blending of two priceless theatrical ingredients—gasp-inducing thrills and spontaneous laughter. Playwright Ira Levin snares the audience with the devious machinations of a writer of thrillers, Sydney Bruhl, whose recent offerings have been flops, and who is prepared to go to any lengths to improve his fortunes. Directed by Margy Ragsdale, the cast includes, John Cherry as the devious Bruhl, Lisa Blair, Eileen Conway, Darin Starr and Chuck Denny. Come and join the spirits for a tour of Downtown Knoxville’s scariest landmarks. The tours which last approximately one and a half hours each, will visit the sites of some of Knoxville’s best kept secrets. Stories for this year include: the legend of Knoxville’s own Frankenstein, The Haunted Church Organ & Hanging Abner Baker. All tours began and end at James White’s Fort located at the intersection of Hill Avenue and Hall of Fame Drive. Ample free parking is available for tour participants at the Fort. Tours will depart at 7:00 p.m. each evening. Each tour will end with a marshmallow roast around the fires at the Fort.

A Provocative and Gripping Story
The WordPlayers will present the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning play Doubt, A Parable by John Patrick Shanley. This brilliant and powerful drama features Carol Mayo Jenkins, veteran of Broadway, Off-Broadway, numerous regional theatres and star of TV’s Fame. Ms. Jenkins plays Sister Aloysius, a Catholic school principal, who takes matters into her own hands when she suspects the young Father Flynn (Rollin Prince) of improper relations with one of the male students. Lar’Juanette Williams plays Mrs. Muller and Rachel Norman enacts Sister James. This thought-provoking drama confronts issues of hierarchical power, uncertainties and doubt. Recommended for ages 15+ Optional Post-show Discussion will follow each performance.

Led by Ijams' naturalists and historians, this unique walking tour along rugged trails takes in Ijams' disused quarries with their own dark pasts for an informative yet hauntingly fun adventure in search of the infamous, the unknown, and the unexplained. $10 per person.

The District Gallery is pleased to present a photographic journey through Paris as seen through the lens of photographer Ben Finch. PARIS: A Journey on Film features classic scenes of Paris and modern views of iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. Finch also captures common details of everyday French culture and turns them into memorable images with his timeless aesthetic and traditional film photography.

An opening reception will be held on Friday, October 11 from 5:30-9 p.m. with pastries by the French Market. The show continues through November 9.

A jewelry show by Adel Chefridi will also open on October 11. Chefridi’s designs emphasize simplicity, wearability, durability, and openness to light and movement. Made with natural gemstones, his elegant pieces have a friendly and peaceful feel that make them wearable every day.

The public is invited to the reception and opening of the Annual Fall Awards Art Show on October 11 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Plateau Arts Center (PCAC). The theme of the show is Wild about Art. Artists of the Art Guild at Fairfield Glade will submit their original work to be judged on this theme in the following categories: Watercolor and acrylic under glass, Oil and acrylic not under glass, Mixed media, Pastel, Colored pencil drawing, Black and white drawing, Photography, Three dimensional, and Jewelry. Awards will be given for each category. This year's judge is Bobbie Crews of Knoxville. The reception will include refreshments viewing of the new show, and presentation of awards.

at Knoxville’s largest Halloween event! BOO! at the Zoo presented by U.S. Cellular® kicks off 12 nights of safe and not-too-scary Halloween fun Thursday, Oct. 10-13 and continuing Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 17-20 and Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 24- 37, from 5:30-8:00 p.m. each evening.

BOO! at the Zoo, a Halloween tradition for 27 years, is a family event featuring devilishly good music and games at the Monster Mash tent in The Clayton Family Kids Cove, friendly costumed characters throughout the zoo, and the only “haunted” carousel in East Tennessee, the Scary-Go-Round. (How can you tell it’s haunted? It goes backwards, of course.)
One of the highlights of BOO! at the Zoo is trick-or-treating along the BOO! Trail, where little trick-or-treaters can fill their bag with goodies as they make their way through the zoo. Each night of BOO! at the Zoo will also feature a variety of entertainment, from dancers and jugglers to out-of-this-world STAR WARS characters.
