Her first solo album, East Kentucky Morning, came in 1997. Since then she has released seven albums with her latest Somewhere South of Crazy coming in 2011. Cresthill Cinema Club: Captain January and Clipper Ship
Category: Film
Join the Cresthill Cinema Club for our next screening, which will be taking place on Friday, March 21. That evening, at 7:30 PM, we'll be sailing away with a program of nautical entertainment.
Our March program will begin with Captain January (1936) – in tribute to the biggest little star ever, the late, great Shirley Temple. Seven-year-old Shirley shines at her brightest in Captain January, singing, dancing and emoting her way through one of her very best vehicles.
Captain January will be followed by “Clipper Ship,” a 1957 episode of Playhouse 90, the acclaimed television anthology. Playhouse 90 was a landmark series, presenting for the first time feature-length entertainment on the home screen. The show was also notable for its unusually high production values and the top creative talent it utilized. Bearing this out is “Clipper Ship,” an exciting drama centered on an attractive young widow of a shipping magnate and her high-seas romance with a political prisoner who’s marked for execution. Jan Sterling, Charles Bickford, Steve Forrest and Helmut Dantine star.
Our location: The spacious clubhouse of the Windover Apartments. The journey there will take you to Cheshire Drive (off Kingston Pike, near the Olive Garden); going down Cheshire, turn right at the Windover Apartments sign, then go to the third parking lot on your right, next to the pool. There, the building that houses the clubhouse and offices of the Windover will be just a few steps away!

East Tennessee Baskets, 1880-1940
Imagine doing away with plastic shopping bags, buckets, and storage tubs and depending instead upon wood baskets. The essential role these hand-woven containers played in bygone days would soon be realized. During the past year, ETHS has worked to document the traditional baskets of our region, including family stories and photographs when the maker's identity is known. Woven of Wood highlights selected examples from this survey and illustrates how East TN baskets were some of the most functional and creative possessions in everyday life.
