Dan Goggin’s Latest Nunsense Show, Meshuggah-Nuns!, finds the sisters on an all-expense paid trip on the “Faiths of All Nations” Cruise. When the cast of “Fiddler on the Roof” (with the exception of the guy playing Tevye) gets seasick, the ship’s captain asks the sisters and Tevye to put on a show. The result- Meshuggah-Nuns! Hilarity reigns supreme on the high seas with songs like Say It In Yiddish, Contrition, In the Convent, and If I Were a Catholic. From Sister Amnesia’s attempt at magic to the sing-along Fiddlerspiel, Meshuggah-Nuns is an ecumenical fun-fest. You don’t have to be Catholic. You don’t have to be Jewish. This is a show for anyone who loves a good laugh! The cast includes Julie Howard, Mary Sue Greiner, Roxanne Cabrera, Cody Boling, and Susan Bolt. Musical direction by David Eilart.

It’s that time again! All 30 of Goodwill Industries-Knoxville’s retail stores are putting out their Halloween costumes as they prepare for the Halloween season. Each store has an abundance of manufactured costumes, often still in original packaging, for a quick grab-and-go Halloween look. For those feeling more creative, there’s plenty of clothes in the stores that could be easily turned into a costume – find creative ideas from Goodwill at www.gwiktn.org/Halloween.
Once you’ve picked your costume, be sure to enter it into the Ghoulishly Goodwill Costume Contest for your chance to win prizes from the Knoxville Zoo!
How to submit:
To enter to the Ghoulishly Goodwill Costume contest, participants must submit their entry by October 25, 2015 in any one of the following ways.

Alive After Five is a unique live music series that takes place in the smoke-free, casually elegant setting of the Ann and Steve Bailey Hall in the Knoxville Museum of Art. There is a live band on stage, seating at tables, two cash bars, food from area restaurants, free freshly popped popcorn, and free parking. Audience members can enjoy listening to music, dancing, and browsing the museum’s art galleries. Admission is $10 for general and $5 for museum members and college students with ID. Kelle Jolle is a visual and musical artist who currently lives in Knoxville with her saxophonist husband, Will Boyd. Kelle is the co-host of “What’s Going On with Robert Minter,” a community television show, and “Jazz Jam with Kelle Jolly” on WUOT 91.9. She was was the 2011 Mountain Soul Vocal Competition Winner and the 2013 Community Shares Artist of Change Award recipient. Will Boyd is a member of the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra. In 2006, the musical couple represented the city of Knoxville at its sister city’s jazz festival in Muroran, Japan. In 2008 they were married there. And as a gift to the city of Muroran, Japan, Kelle and Will recorded the album Dreams of Muroran. Kelle Jolly and Will Boyd received the MLK Commission Art Award in 2015.

Nick Africano, a Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter, returns to Athens for AACA’s Big Time/Small Town Bonus Concert, where early-bird Season Ticket buyers and AACA corporate sponsors are guests of honor. The concert is at 7:30 pm in the Sue E. Trotter Theater at The Arts Center in Athens. Limited tickets are available for purchase at the box office and at the door and are $15 for adults and $10 for students. Nick Africano combines the best of folk and soul with sublime storytelling to create a unique style. His music doesn’t fit in a single genre or style – his voice is at times a powerhouse fit for arena rock, sometimes soulful befitting mid-60s Motown, and other times sincere like the early years of Elvis Pressley. Africano’s concert is part of AACA’s celebration of National Arts & Humanities Month, which includes a full calendar of community events.

My recent work is mixed media / assemblage created using a combination of traditional art materials and found objects from both the natural world and my urban surroundings. In the past I've made work that was, more often than not, expressive and very colorful but, with these newer pieces, I've made a concerted effort to strip down my usual style and create a subtler, more minimalist aesthetic. I don't have a particular theme or message in mind when I create but I have been making more of an effort, recently, to simply find things that are visually interesting and stimulating within my immediate surroundings. Because of this the work feels personal but it is also my attempt to communicate with other individuals who are also attempting to find beauty and artistic satisfaction in their everyday lives.

BOO! at the Zoo presented by U.S. Cellular® kicks off Knoxville’s largest Halloween event. Knoxville’s largest Halloween event features 12 nights of safe and not-too-scary fun scheduled over three weekends, Thursdays through Sundays, 5:30-8:00 p.m. each evening. BOO! at the Zoo, a Halloween tradition for 29 years, is a family event featuring trick-or-treating through the zoo along the BOO! Trail, the Chick-fil-A Monster Mash tent with fun that’s perfect for preschool and elementary-aged event-goers, friendly costumed characters and entertainers throughout the zoo, the Carni-GROWL, an all-new carnival-themed activity area and the only “haunted” carousel in East Tennessee, the Scary-Go-Round. The Appalachian Arts Craft Center in Norris will hold its Fall Porch Sale starting Thursday, October 8, and running for about two weeks. The Porch Sale features outdated stock, seconds, student crafts and unjuried work by members of the Craft Center. It’s an excellent time to get great deals. There will also be baked goods for sale!

The Appalachian Arts Craft Center is a nonprofit center that has been fulfilling its mission by promoting traditional artists and crafts in the East Tennessee area for 40 years. Currently the center has about 70 crafters who sell in the shop.
