October 24-25:
The 40th Annual Mountain Makins Festival at historic Rose Center in Morristown is a weekend folk life festival. The festival honors the rich traditions of the past, and supports modern interpretations of those traditions. More than just a fine art and craft show, visitors to the family-friendly event enjoy two stages of mountain music, storytelling, prize-winning dancers, regional authors, children’s activities, and abundant good food. One special feature is the live demonstration of traditional crafts such as blacksmithing, basket making, wood turning and more.
Preview Party on Friday evening (10/23) features live entertainment, gourmet food and advance purchase of the crafts. Four time “Top 20 Event in the Southeast.”

Fourth and Gill Neighborhood: ARToberfest

The 4th and Gill Neighborhood of downtown Knoxville is known for beautiful homes and creative people. To capitalize on and celebrate these treasures, ARToberfest was established in 2015. The event serves as a fundraiser for the 4th and Gill Neighborhood with the goal of making the Historic 4th and Gill Neighborhood the historic art neighborhood. Of the profits, 40% goes to public art, 40% for neighborhood maintenance and beautification, 10% to ARTreach (a non-profit that provides creative opportunities to youth), and 10% to the neighborhood with the greatest attendance. ARToberfest is an ever expanding event for the whole family. Entertainment includes: art vendors, live music, puppet performance, dance, art bikes, and geocaching. The UTK vs. Alabama football will be shown on the big screen. Brats are the standard fare – both meat and vegetarian. Beer, wine, and non-alcoholic options by Crafty Bastard will be served. ARToberfest 2015 will be held on Morgan Street between Third and Gratz near the Central United Methodist Church. Tickets are $10 and kids 12 and under are free. Advanced ticket sales will begin on October 1. An advanced ticket comes with a free beverage. Come join the fun!

Marble Springs State Historic Site: War of 1812 Commemoration

Marble Springs is proud to partner with the Tennessee War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission to host a War of 1812 commemoration. This event is a continuation of the commemoration of the 200th Anniversary of John Sevier's death and the Bicentennial of the War of 1812. Not only was Sevier an early hero of Tennessee history, and the first governor of the state, but he also served as a War Hawk in Congress and chaired the House Committee on Military Affairs throughout the War of 1812. Encampments will be open for viewing, lawn bowling, military drills, musket firings, popular music of the era, lectures relating to Sevier’s role during the war, and a scheduled guided tour of the buildings will be available. Details are subject to change.

Admission is a $3 suggested donation.
