On Saturday, October 19, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., The Knox Heritage Salvage Shop will hold a Donation Drive to receive historic architectural salvage, antiques, and vintage furniture. The Shop will also be holding a special bargain sale on new items donated from Modern Supply, including unused light fixtures and cabinets. All items in the shop will be 10-25% off and those bringing donations will receive an extra 10% off.
The Salvage Shop is a program of the non-profit Knox Heritage which accepts donations of architectural salvage to prevent these valuable items from going to the landfill. Proceeds from sales benefit Knox Heritage, which advocates for historic preservation in East Tennessee.
The Salvage Shop is open Wednesday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m.. To make a salvage donation, contact Beth Meadows at 865-313-2111 or beth@knoxheritage.org. The Salvage Shop is located at 619 Broadway near the intersection of Central and Broadway.

Join us for a morning out as our museum educator leads engaging gallery tours for parents and caregivers and their young ones. Crying and wiggly babies welcome! This month we explore the special exhibit, Embodying Enlightenment: Buddhist Art of the Himalayas.

Come and join the spirits for a tour of Downtown Knoxville’s scariest landmarks. The tours, which last approximately one and
a half hours each, will visit the sites of some of Knoxville’s best kept secrets. The tour will be about one and a half miles in length. All tours begin and end at James White’s Fort. Each tour will end with a marshmallow roast around the fires at the Fort.

It’s that time again! All 30 of Goodwill Industries-Knoxville’s retail stores are putting out their Halloween costumes as they prepare for the Halloween season. Each store has an abundance of manufactured costumes, often still in original packaging, for a quick grab-and-go Halloween look. For those feeling more creative, there’s plenty of clothes in the stores that could be easily turned into a costume – find creative ideas from Goodwill at www.gwiktn.org/Halloween.
Once you’ve picked your costume, be sure to enter it into the Ghoulishly Goodwill Costume Contest for your chance to win prizes from the Knoxville Zoo!

Diana Roger's mixed media/assemblage art work is on exhibit at the Bird-Feeder Gallery in October. Please join us for the opening reception this coming Friday, October 9th from 6-9 at the Birdhouse 800 N. Fourth St. in the Fourth & Gill neighborhood.

My recent work is mixed media / assemblage created using a combination of traditional art materials and found objects from both the natural world and my urban surroundings. In the past I've made work that was, more often than not, expressive and very colorful but, with these newer pieces, I've made a concerted effort to strip down my usual style and create a subtler, more minimalist aesthetic. I don't have a particular theme or message in mind when I create but I have been making more of an effort, recently, to simply find things that are visually interesting and stimulating within my immediate surroundings. Because of this the work feels personal but it is also my attempt to communicate with other individuals who are also attempting to find beauty and artistic satisfaction in their everyday lives.

The Appalachian Arts Craft Center in Norris will hold its Fall Porch Sale starting Thursday, October 8, and running for about two weeks. The Porch Sale features outdated stock, seconds, student crafts and unjuried work by members of the Craft Center. It’s an excellent time to get great deals. There will also be baked goods for sale!

The Appalachian Arts Craft Center is a nonprofit center that has been fulfilling its mission by promoting traditional artists and crafts in the East Tennessee area for 40 years. Currently the center has about 70 crafters who sell in the shop.

This exhibition posits an approach and a vision for architecture at the urban scale within the contemporary post-metropolitan condition.
