Knoxville Children's Theatre: Quoth the Raven
Category: Kids, family and Theatre
For almost 175 years the works of Edgar Allan Poe have given the shivers to readers of all ages. This Halloween, KCT reimagines what inspired this troubled genius to write his stories of terror and poems of lost love. KCT Academy Director Dennis E. Perkins will write and direct the production. Emma Campbell, a freshman at Pellissippi State, will be the staff’s Production Manager.
Join 13 young actors for a literary fright night as we bring some of Poe’s most well-known and haunting works to life, including The Raven, Annabel Lee, Hop-Frog, The Cask of Amontillado, and The Tell Tale Heart, in a special adaptation designed for young audiences, ages 11 and up.
The play will be performed Thursdays and Fridays at 7 PM; Saturdays at 1 PM and 5 PM; Sundays at 3 PM. Knoxville Children's Theatre, 109 E. Churchwell Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37917. Information: 865-599-5284, www.childrenstheatreknoxville.com

With a cast of characters that includes Mary Shelley, John Keats, and a world of slamming doors and coffins, this play is the perfect mix of horror and comedy. Perfect Halloween-time fare! We are excited that Dan Wells will be able to join us on campus for some performances, and may be available for talks at local and campus libraries!

It is a great event for both learning and networking.
To celebrate its 7th year, the conference is being held in downtown Knoxville. Primary sessions will be held at the East Tennessee History Center and the conference will include an opening reception and hands-on workshops at Historic Westwood. The Tennessee Historical Commission will be providing specialized training for Certified Local Government and Historic Zoning Commission members and AIA continuing education credits will once again be offered. A variety of walking tours to sites in downtown Knoxville and the introduction of the first East Tennessee Preservation Gala will further enhance the experience. Space is limited, so please register early to attend by visiting www.knoxheritage.org/etpa or by calling 865-523-8008. This year’s keynote speaker and special guest will be Donovan Rypkema, recognized as an industry leader in the economics of preserving historic structures. He is principal of PlaceEconomics, a Washington, DC-based real estate and economic development consulting firm which specializes in services to public and nonprofit-sector clients who are dealing with downtown and neighborhood commercial district revitalization and the reuse of historic structures. In 2012, the National Trust for Historic Preservation awarded him the Louise du Pont Crowninshield Award, the organization’s highest honor, for his work in the preservation field. Birdhouse Gallery: Exhibition by Diana Roger
Category: Exhibitions, visual art and Free event
Diana Roger's mixed media/assemblage art work is on exhibit at the Bird-Feeder Gallery in October. Please join us for the opening reception this coming Friday, October 9th from 6-9 at the Birdhouse 800 N. Fourth St. in the Fourth & Gill neighborhood.
My recent work is mixed media / assemblage created using a combination of traditional art materials and found objects from both the natural world and my urban surroundings. In the past I've made work that was, more often than not, expressive and very colorful but, with these newer pieces, I've made a concerted effort to strip down my usual style and create a subtler, more minimalist aesthetic. I don't have a particular theme or message in mind when I create but I have been making more of an effort, recently, to simply find things that are visually interesting and stimulating within my immediate surroundings. Because of this the work feels personal but it is also my attempt to communicate with other individuals who are also attempting to find beauty and artistic satisfaction in their everyday lives.
Please check the Birdhouse Community Center schedule of events for open hours at birdhouseknoxville.com. or call Gerry Moll at 480-239-0506 to make a special viewing appointment.
