Knoxville Children’s Theatre will present Cinderella And Ebenezer, a new holiday play, based on the timeless tales of “Cinderella” and “A Christmas Carol.” The play will be performed Thursdays and Fridays at 7 PM; Saturdays at 1 PM and 5 PM; Sundays at 3 PM.

Cinderella & Ebenezer is a comic modern-day mash-up of two classic tales, containing the crystal slipper, rude step-sisters, midnight deadline, and all the romance of "Cinderella," as well as all the good-natured holiday spirit of Charles Dickens' classic Yuletide novel, "A Christmas Carol." A heart-warming comedy for all ages, "Cinderella & Ebenezer" is written by Zack Allen and directed by Ashlee Latimer.

The play is performed by 14 talented young actors, from ages 9 to 16. KCT is East Tennessee’s leading producer of stage plays for children. Cinderella And Ebenezer is the 72nd play to be produced by Knoxville Children’s Theatre. The company is also the area’s leading producer of new works; Cinderella And Ebenenzer is the 30th original play to be created by the company. Over 9,500 people attended a KCT play in 2014. The play is written and directed by Zack Allen.

Foothills Community Players: A Little Murder Never Hurt Anybody

  • December 4, 2015 — December 6, 2015

Category: Theatre

Witty banter and physical humor create a hilarious spoof and a love letter to the screwball comedies of the 1930s in this play by Ron Bernas. "A Little Murder Never Hurt Anybody" is the story of a well-to-do businessman, Matthew Perry, who finds himself wanting to enjoy life, so he decides to be a widower. He divulges his plan to his wife, Julia, who in light of their daughter's recent engagement, decides to stay alive. Over the course of one year, Matthew's attempts to kill Julia only seem to work on their house-guests. Bunny, the Perry's ditsy daughter, is left wondering whether her wedding should still go on, but her bright fiancee Donald supports her through the year of turmoil. A not so supportive butler, Buttram, seems to harbor a dreadful secret - or two. As the bodies start piling up, Detective Plotnik tries to figure out 'who-done-it' --- that is if something really has been done. Who will succeed in his or her resolution --- and who gets caught in the crossfire? This hilarious comedy has lots of surprises, right up to the end!

West High School: Theatre Weekend

  • 7:00PM

Category: Theatre

For the first time in West High School’s 64-year history, the West High School Theatre Department is hosting a weekend of theatre, presenting two plays on consecutive nights: the student-directed play Steel Magnolias on Friday, December 4th, and award-winning drama Anon(ymous) on Saturday, December 5th.

Directed by senior Ike Hannah, a student in West High’s renowned International Baccalaureate (IB) programme, Steel Magnolias is a southern classic, featuring roles previously held by superstar actors such as Julia Roberts, Sally Field, and Dolly Parton. West’s IB programme, authorized in 2011, is a comprehensive, rigorous program of advanced studies that demands the best from motivated students. Hannah will be the first IB student in Knox County School history to direct a mainstage production.

The very next night will see the Knoxville premiere of Anon(ymous), a modern-day retelling of Homer’s The Odyssey written by Naomi Iizuka. Directed by West High Theatre Director Lisa Nelson, Anon(ymous) won the New Visions/New Voices award in 2004.

The play follows the story of a young refugee named Anon who traverses the world after losing his mother, from whom he was separated at birth. From one-eyed butchers with a taste for human flesh to young women stuck in a sweatshop, Anon learns that finding safety is harder than it seems.

Both plays feature West High School Theatre students from the Advanced Theatre class.
Join West High Theatre at 7:00 P.M. on December 4th for Steel Magnolias and 5th for Anon(ymous) at 7:00 P.M. in the West High Auditorium. Tickets will be $5 for students and $7 for adults. West offers a special discount of $1 off each individual ticket price the second night if you return with your ticket stub! Foothills Community Players: A Little Murder Never Hurt Anybody

  • December 3, 2015 — December 6, 2015

Category: Theatre

A Little Murder Never Hurt Anybody by Ron Bernas is a spoof of and love letter to the screwball comedies of the 1930s and to stage mysteries in general. As the show opens, the Perrys make their traditional New Years resolutions together: Matthew declares to Julia that he wants something more . . . to be able to travel abroad, to play golf every day, to spend more time at his club. Thus, he resolves to kill her by next New Years Eve so he will be free to pursue his heart’s desires. Julia takes his resolution in stride and resolves to still be alive a year later. Their games begin and they let no one stand in their ways as they attempt to keep their resolutions as the year goes by. To liven things up, we add the Perry’s spoiled, dingy daughter Bunny, her bright and forgiving boyfriend Donald, Buttram, the Perry’s longtime butler who harbors a dreadful secret, and Plotnik, a bumbling police detective who tries to figure out “who-done-it” --- that is if something really has been done. Who will succeed in his or her resolution --- and who gets caught in the crossfire? This hilarious comedy has lots of surprises, right up to the end.
