Farragut High Schools Showcase Art at Town Hall

The Town of Farragut and Farragut Arts Council are sponsoring the 2016 Farragut High Schools Art Show this spring at the Farragut Town Hall. Don't miss the opportunity to appreciate the work of some of Farragut's most talented young artists from Farragut High School and Concord Christian School. Awards will be given for first, second and third places during a reception on Tuesday, April 19, 5-6 PM.
Viewable during regular Town Hall hours: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Writers in the Library and UT Creative Writing Program: Poetry Spring

Writers in the Library will host poetry readings by Leslie LaChance and Adam Day as part of Poetry Spring at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The public is invited to this free reading at 7 p.m., Monday, April 11, in the Lindsay Young Auditorium of the John C. Hodges Library.
Leslie LaChance edits Mixitini Matrix: A Journal of Creative Collaboration. She is an assistant editor with Sundress Publications, where she curates The Wardrobe and is developing a children’s literature list. LaChance’s poems have appeared in numerous literary journals. Her chapbook collection, How She Got That Way, was published in the quartet volume Mend & Hone by Toadlily Press in 2013. A UT alumnus, LaChance is currently an associate professor of English at Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, Tennessee, where she teaches writing and literature courses.
Adam Day is the author of A Model of City in Civil War (Sarabande Books, 2015), and he is the recipient of a PSA Chapbook Fellowship for Badger, Apocrypha, and of a PEN Emerging Writers Award. His work has appeared in the Boston Review, Lana Turner, APR, Poetry London, AGNI, The Iowa Review, and elsewhere. He directs the Baltic Writing Residency, which nurtures talented writers by funding week-long residencies at secluded locations in Latvia, in Scotland, and at the Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest.
Writers in the Library hosts readings by noted authors of fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction. The series is sponsored by the UT Libraries and the UT Creative Writing Program, in association with the John C. Hodges Better English Fund. For more information contact Christopher Hebert, Jack E. The Emporium Center Artists: Art DeTours

The Emporium Center in downtown Knoxville is pleased to participate in Dogwood Arts’ Art DeTour weekend. The ten resident artists of the Emporium will open their studios for live demonstrations from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM each day. Admission is free. The Art DeTour is a two-day event during which local artists throughout Knoxville welcome the public into their working studio spaces to experience the creative process while demonstrating the making of their artwork. Bowl for Kids’ Sake is Big Brothers Big Sisters of East TN’s largest annual fundraiser bringing together more than 900 community members to major bowling parties to raise funds for a great cause. Bowl For Kids’ Sake is the perfect way for individuals to make an impact on our community – it only takes a little bit of effort to raise the money that is vital to our program’s success. The Sundress Academy for the Arts: Scruffy ‘Scapes and Sonnets

Sundress Academy for the Arts (SAFTA) invites you to Scruffy ‘Scapes and Sonnets, an art and poetry exhibit featuring two-dimensional art depicting the scruffy city of Knoxville, TN and the sonnets that were written with the pieces of art in mind.
SAFTA introduces this exhibit from 6 to 8 p.m. in Preservation Pub’s second floor Speakeasy. This event will feature a reception with the artists as well as a reading from the featured poets. Please join us as we celebrate the tremendous amount of talent that Knoxville holds!
The show itself runs from April 1 through May 5, 2016 and features photography by Michelle Jephcott, Jessica Hanneken, Anita Koester, Keith Norris, and Shae Hacker, paintings by Starr Cline and Dawn Hawkins, and sonnets by nationally-acclaimed poets Kristi Maxwell, Chris Petruccelli, Ben McClendon, Keri Withington, Erin Elizabeth Smith, and more!

Birdhouse Bird Feeder Gallery: A celebration of the artwork of Susanne C. Barrie

A celebration of the artwork of Susanne C. Barrie (née Susan Jenkins). Selected drawings and prints will be on exhibit from April 1-30th. The exhibit’s opening reception is on April 8th from 6-9 pm.
Susanne earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Arizona State University. Susanne traveled the world honing her skills as an artist/printmaker, with extensive travel and work in Mexico, Europe, and Japan. Susanne moved to Knoxville in the early 1980s where she has been a long-time, active member of the local arts community.
