Knoxville Swing Dance Association Presents: The Low Down Sires

  • April 2, 2016
  • 7:15-11:00 PM

Category: Dance, movement and Music

For April's installment of the KSDA's monthly live music series, the KSDA is proud to present The Low Down Sires, from Asheville, NC, who can be found playing for dancers and listeners all over the country. The Low-Down Sires are dedicated to the lost sounds of early jazz, inspired by the compositions and arrangements of Joe "King" Oliver, Edward "Kid" Ory, Jelly Roll Morton, and other giants from the storied origins of the art form. Their raucous style predates the smoother sounds of big band swing and the intellectualism of modern jazz and transports you to the streets of New Orleans and the barrelhouses of early 20th century Mississippi river towns. Their performance style is at once hard hitting and intimate, fitting in easily well at bars, back-porches, swing dances, and street corners.

7:15 - 8:00 pm Free Beginner Drop In Lesson to get you moving to the music for the night. No partner or dance experience required.

8:00 - 11:00 pm Live music from the Low Down Sires and open social dancing. Pre-order discounted passes online or at any KSDA Wednesday night dance.
