Knoxville Opera: Puccini's Tosca
Italy’s Greatest Diva… Torture, Murder, Suicide… A Masterpiece of Corruption and Intrigue!
Knoxville Opera is breaking all the rules of conventional opera production with the April 30, 2016 performance of Puccini’s masterpiece Tosca. For the first time in history, the artists, orchestra, and audience will travel among three venues in order to simulate the character’s experiences. You are invited to be one of only 1,400 people to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Performed in Church Street United Methodist Church, Knoxville Convention Exhibition Center, World’s Fair Park Amphitheater. Performed in Italian.
+ Act 1: 2:00 – 2:45pm OR 3:45 – 4:30pm at Church Street United Methodist Church. Due to the church’s limited seating, patrons need to choose between the two performances of this act.

+ Act 3: 9:20 – 9:50 pm at World’s Fair Park Amphitheater

Dogwood Arts: Art Slam

Experience a live art competition among Knoxville's up and coming artists as part of the Dogwood Arts Festival. Wild and fun adirondack chairs will be painted by 12 talented creatives. Chairs will be auctioned with proceeds benefiting The Muse Knoxville and Dogwood Arts. At Krutch Park.

2nd Annual Brewhibition

RESIST PROHIBITION ! The 2nd Annual Brewhibition presented by Superfly Fabulous Events, is Knoxville’s Spring Craft Beer Festival, on April 30, 2016 in the Old City Courtyard. Brewhibition is not only a celebration to the end of Prohibition, but also an homage to the amazing Tennessee and regional brewers who were born out of Prohibition.
Located in the Bowery area of Knoxville, Brewhibition promises to be a “one of a kind” event and a “must do” for craft beer lovers in the region. Brewhibition takes a different approach by focusing on the unique aspects of beer, with a little WOW factor mixed in. Special craft beers created just for Brewhibition and those unique hard to find beers will be on full display throughout the day.
Beer Cocktails are taken to the next level at this event. Six brewers and six distilleries will pair off and create a unique one of a kind Beer Cocktail concocted just for Brewhibition. In addition to the over 20 breweries at Brewhibition, participants will be given tokens to try each of the East Tennessee Beer Cocktails paired with both an amazing local brewer and an equally amazing local distillery.
Two Mobile Infusers will be on hand throughout the day, infusing everything from Pecan Pie to Toasted Coconut for a unique taste that is sure to bring a smile to your face. If you’re wondering where the mobile infusers will be, just look for the people running to get in line.
Special craft beer tappings will be announced throughout the day so keep an eye out for the Tapping Notifications and make sure you follow us on Twitter so you don’t miss it.
Attendees can expect outrageous fun at this inaugural event with great music, a 1920’s Costume Contest and the Beer City Hoopers.

Jubilee Community Arts: Riley Baugus

Old-Time Banjo
Riley Baugus was raised in the Regular Baptist church unaccompanied singing tradition. He honed his musical skills with friend and neighbor, Kirk Sutphin and by visiting elder traditional musicians in and around Grayson County, Virginia and Surry County, North Carolina. He learned from fiddlers Tommy Jarrell and Robert Sykes, from banjo player Dix Freeman, and former Camp Creek Boys Verlin Clifton and Paul Sutphin.

Join us at Historic Sam Houston Schoolhouse for our very special Mother / Daughter / Tea. The year is 1812. It was a simpler time, but not without elegance. The height of that elegance was the women’s formal tea. Come dressed in your Sunday best, your everyday clothing or your old time finery. Although the finest of teas and finger foods will be served we have decided to keep the cost as low as possible. It is only $10 for the first member of your party and $5 for each additional Lady. The demand will be high for a seat at this table - we have to limit it to the first 25 Ladies that RSVP. Call soon to be a part of a more gentile time. Terra Madre: Women in Clay - Spring Pottery Sale

The sale is free and open to the public. This one-day sale will feature the handmade pottery and clay art of several members of the group. Terra Madre is an eclectic group of over 30 female artists with diverse approaches to clay. The sale will include a vast assortment of unique handmade clay pottery items. As is typical for Terra Madre shows, yummy homemade finger food will be served during the show presented on beautiful handmade pottery serving pieces. Terra Madre is a juried group of women clay artists that was founded in the year 2000 by female ceramic artists from East Tennessee. Their mission is to support each other in the pursuit of their dreams as artists and as women. Terra Madre members are affiliated with many juried and professional arts organizations. Collectively, the group exhibits in 2-3 shows annually and individually their work has been exhibited all over the country and can be found in galleries, shops, juried fine craft shows and fairs, as well as in many private art collections. Take the US-321exit, EXIT 81, Lenoir City. Drive 4.4 miles. After crossing the Loudon Dam Bridge turn right onto ramp for TN 444. Continue on 444 for 6.4 mi. Follow signs for the Yacht Club: Turn left onto Sequoyah Rd for 0.7 mi. The Yacht Club is at the end with a right turn into the parking lot and flags at the entrance.

Thom Mayne, recipient of the prestigious Pritzker Prize and founder of the international architectural practice, Morphosis, will present Negotiating a Private Agenda on April 30, 3:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public. Following the lecture, Mayne will sign copies of Combinatory Urbanism, which can be purchased at the signing at a discounted price. The General Shale Keynote Lecture is part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the UT College of Architecture and Design.

Encore Theatrical Company: The Best Man

Does the best man always get to the White House? Encore Theatrical Company is inviting audiences to find out when it premieres the second show of its tenth anniversary season, Gore Vidal’s “The Best Man.” This political comedy will open on Friday, April 29 for two weekends only at Walters State Community College in Morristown. The plot of “The Best Man” follows two Presidential candidates in their quest for the White House. William Russell, the ex-Secretary of State, is a wit and scholar with high liberal principles, beloved of the eggheads and suspected by practical politicians. Joseph Cantwell is a ruthless and hard-driving young man, a dirty fighter who will let no scruples stand in the way of his ambitions. And Arthur Hockstader is an ex-President, determined to have the final say in the selection of his party's candidate, and enjoying keeping the candidates guessing whom he will endorse.
“The Best Man” features a cast of 17 actors from around the region. The two presidential candidates are Drew Wilder (making his Encore debut) as Secretary William Russell, along with Bill Conklin as Senator Joseph Cantwell. Performances are scheduled for two weekends only, April 29 through May 8. Evening performances are April 29, 30, May 6, and 7 at 8pm with matinees on May 1, 7, and 8 at 2pm. Dogwood Arts: Dogwood Arts Festival

With quality arts and crafts booths, arts in action, performing arts, culinary arts demonstrations and tastings, and an expanded children’s creation station, several blocks of downtown Knoxville are transformed into a lively street fair for the Dogwood Arts Festival! There will be more than 60 local and regional juried artists exhibiting and selling their original work in mixed media, clay, drawing/pastels, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, painting, photography, sculpture, and wood. In addition to the artist areas in Market Square and Krutch Park extension, enjoy cooking demonstrations, festive food creations, and delicious wine and beer pairings at the Culinary Arts Stage. Live performances all weekend long on the Market Square stage, the Union Avenue pop-up stage, and the Children’s stage. Blooming Boulevard returns to the Dogwood Arts Festival providing unique colorful flower markets filled with live blooming plants, herbs, flowers, and trees.
