Museum of Appalachia: Candlelight Christmas Tour

Join us December 2nd & 3rd from 5:00-8:00PM. Candlelight Christmas Tour
Experience the serenity of an Appalachian Christmas during our Candlelight Christmas Tour.

We invite you to tour selected cabins in the Museum village by candlelight, enjoy Christmas storytelling, drink hot apple cider, sing carols in the Irwin Chapel, visit with Museum animals, and make Appalachian ornaments. We'll also have a live Nativity scene (featuring animals from Little Ponderosa Zoo*), musicians performing throughout the grounds, as well as spinning & weaving demonstrations, candle-dipping, cooking demonstrations, blacksmithing, sassafras tea-making, and lots of holiday craft activities for kids! The Museum Restaurant will also be open, and will be serving soups & sandwiches.

Be sure to bring a flashlight!

Family Rate (2 adults and children under 18) - $20

UT Arboretum Society: Holiday Wreath-Making Workshop & Brunch

Sign up today! Spaces are limited! The UT Arboretum Society is sponsoring a Holiday Craft Brunch on Friday, December 2nd from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The cost is $25 per person for the brunch and materials. A UTAS member will be conducting the workshop which will be held at the UT Arboretum Auditorium. Cuttings from the Arboretum’s Harold Elmore Holly Collection will be used to make the unique wreaths. Participants may bring clippings from their own yard as well. It is suggested that participants bring gloves. Brunch will include breakfast casserole, muffins, juice, and coffee. There will be a maximum of 15 participants. UTAS will maintain a waiting list if there are cancellations. Cost is $25, payable in advance. Jubilee Community Arts: Jamie Laval

Jamie will present a program of traditional music from Scotland, Ireland, Bretagne, Galicea, Quebec, and Appalachia. Winner of the U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Championship (2002), Laval has appeared on the NBC Today Show, has performed for Her Majesty the Queen, and won Best World Traditional Song in the 2007 Independent Music Awards Vox Populi. His recent tour of Scotland found him performing at the Scots Fiddle Festival in Edinburgh and teaching at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama.

The Central Collective: Halitide: First Friday with Chris Spurgin and Joshua Shorey

Halitide is an immersive, time-based multimedia installation that interrogates perceptions of time, material, and the human intellect. Using sound, kinetic sculpture, and projection, the installation seeks to expose flaws in these perceptions, and calls forth an alternative presence in the absence of understanding.

Chris Spurgin and Joshua Shorey are MFA candidates at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
