Summer Suppers are Back!

Kick-off the season with two carefully curated virtual cocktail party and Behind the Scenes Tours focused on classical and modern architecture in Knoxville. Take a wanderlust trip through time and experience music, food, drinks, and art from iconic decades past. Revisit 1920 at the home of a women’s suffrage leader and play your part in the debate while dining and drinking in grand style. End the season at our barbecue and bluegrass extravaganza overlooking the river and under the stars.

Our volunteers have been working very hard to plan these special events in a way that will create wonderful memories for our guests in a safe environment.

Come out and support young entrepreneurs during Sew It Sell It Market Day! Students, ages 10-17, of our sewing & entrepreneurship program will be selling their handmade products on Sat. July 31st from 10am-2pm

Sew It Sell It is sewing and entrepreneurship program housed at the Bottom that gives youth the opportunity to express their creativity, learn a vocational skill and develop a sense of self-reliance by sewing and selling a product. In addition to learning the basics of sewing, students learn business planning, branding and marketing, and retail selling. They also are exposed to university faculty, local entrepreneurs and other professionals in our community.

This year we have 15 students, ages 10-17, who are excited to share what they've learned! Our Sew It Sell It program culminates in a Market Day celebration where participants set up booths to sell their products to the public.

Please join Historic Ramsey House in celebrating the completion of the Blacksmith Shop restoration by Ethan Anderson!

Ethan, a local Boy Scout, began his work on the Blacksmith Shop two and a half years ago, after a tour of Historic Ramsey House inspired him to lead a project which would serve his community. Now that his project is complete, Ethan will attain Eagle Scout rank. On July 31 at 1:00 PM, Ethan will cut the ribbon and light the first fire of the Blacksmith Shop at Ramsey House. A demonstration by a blacksmith from the Clinch River Blacksmith Guild will follow.
Historic Ramsey House is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose purpose is to educate, preserve, and interpret the history and cultural life of early Tennessee and the important role of the Ramsey Family.

Summer Movie Magic presented by Denark Construction is a long-standing tradition celebrating our legacy as a movie palace. On Saturday, Teddy Pruett, a nationally recognized expert in quilt history, will present a trunk show at 11 am and 1 pm on differences between quilts of the North and South. Online collaborative summit
July 26–August 01, 2021

Presented by Nief-Norf, this online summit focuses on hybrid musicianship: working across disciplines as a composer, performer, and improviser. This inspiration comes from several sources, including the increased demand for the Performer–Composer track at our annual Nief-Norf Summer Festival, as well as the College Music Society’s 2013 Manifesto, which "takes the position that improvisation and composition provide a stronger basis for educating musicians today than the prevailing model of training performers in the interpretation of older works." Multidisciplinary approaches to music making has always been at the core of Nief-Norf and its programs, and our recent nnSF guest artist Wadada Leo Smith and his beautiful music only further inspired those efforts.

Summit participants will collaborate with one another in the creation of new imaginative works, guided by individualized coaching and mentoring from faculty including Kendall Williams, Carolyn Chen, Jordan Munson, and Andy Bliss. Participants will also have the opportunity to attend keynote presentations from guest artists as well as present their original work through online Norf Space events and the virtual marathon concert on Sunday, August 01, 2021.

This summit is a confluence of a wide range of skills and perspectives—all ages and levels of experience are welcome.
