The weeklong statewide campaign brings together food waste leaders and experts to highlight the many issues surrounding food waste and to inspire people to take action to reduce food waste and increase food recovery and diversion in Tennessee.
“The City of Knoxville is committed to reducing the amount of food waste that we put into our landfill,” says Waste and Resources Manager Patience Melnik, whose department recently launched the Knoxville Compost Pilot Project. “Working together with residents and restaurants, we can divert more food scraps from the landfill into backyard and larger-scale composting endeavors. Broadway at the Tennessee Theatre: Summer: The Donna Summer Musical
Summer: The Donna Summer Musical - April 8-10 (5 performances)
She was a girl from Boston with a voice from heaven, who shot through the stars from gospel choir to dance floor diva. But what the world didn’t know was how Donna Summer risked it all to break through barriers, becoming the icon of an era and the inspiration for every music diva who followed. With a score featuring more than 20 of Summer’s classic hits including “Love to Love You Baby,” “Bad Girls” and “Hot Stuff,” this electric experience is a moving tribute to the voice of a generation.

Our featured plant will be the Fairytrail Bride® Cascade Hydrangea. Our own Jason Reeves, horticulturist at UT Gardens, Jackson, sang the praises of this breeding breakthrough in a recent article in Fine Gardening magazine:
"Fairytrail Bride® is the first hydrangea with the ability to produce flowers from every leaf joint, and it has a unique trailing habit to boot. White lacecap blossoms appear down the graceful trailing stems like garlands of lace in late spring to early summer. The flowers start out as green buds that open to pure white."

Maryville College Theatre: Urinetown
Category: Comedy, Music and Theatre
April 7-10
Winner of three Tony Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards and two Obie Awards, Urinetown is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics and musical theatre itself! Hilariously funny and touchingly honest, Urinetown provides a fresh perspective on one of America's greatest art forms.
In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he's had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!
Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, Urinetown is an irreverently humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny. Praised for reinvigorating the very notion of what a musical could be, Urinetown catapults the "comedic romp" into the new millennium with its outrageous perspective, wickedly modern wit and sustained ability to produce gales of unbridled laughter.

Gallery 1010: Outside Looking In
Category: Exhibitions, visual art and Free event
Outside Looking In explores the architect's perversion of the human psyche and how there is an unsettling interest to open the pandora’s box of another individual’s internal layout.
Have you ever felt this draw to look through someone’s window while walking your dog, or riding your bike through your own neighborhood? The draw to look into someone else's “pandora box” speaks to the natural inclination to access someone's personal space.
The show is a collaboration between Undergraduate students from the School of Architecture and Art of The University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
There is an opening reception on Thursday, April 7, from 5-7 PM. The gallery's doors are open again Sunday, April 10, from 10 AM- 1 PM.
The fellow designers/artists that are presenting their work at Outside Looking In are:
