Mistaken identities, overblown egos, double entendres, and a lap dog named Mr. Boodles round out this hilarious riot of a love note to the classic farces of the 30s and 40s.

Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame: 2022 Induction Weekend

  • June 10, 2022 — June 11, 2022

Category: Festivals, special events and History, heritage

June 10-11: 2022 Induction Weekend in Knoxville, TN

The 2022 Induction will mark the 23rd Class of Inductees to be honored by the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, which held its grand opening and inaugural induction in 1999. The Class of 2022 will be inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, receiving their coveted Eastman Trophy and Baron Championship Induction Ring.

The members of the Class of 2022 are: Debbie Antonelli (Contributor), Alice "Cookie" Barron (Veteran Player), Doug Bruno (Coach), Becky Hammon (Player), DeLisha Milton-Jones (Player), Paul Sanderford (Coach), Bob Schneider (Coach) and Penny Taylor (International Player).

In addition to the announcement of the Class of 2022, the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame announced its recipient for the "Trailblazers of the Game" award. The 2022 “Trailblazer of the Game” recipient is Title IX. As Title IX enters its 50th anniversary, the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame Board of Directors voted to give the award typically designated for teams and organizations to the Title IX legislation that afforded the opportunity for many female athletes to blaze their own trails. Women's Basketball Hall of Fame Board of Trustees Chair Carol Stiff stated “Without Title IX, our past and future inductees and trailblazers would not have had the opportunity to blaze those trails. It is only fitting that we honor Title IX as it has impacted so many female athletes not only in women’s basketball but in all sports”. Title IX will join eleven other teams and organizations that are recognized as “Trailblazers of the Game” by the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

The ceremony takes place on Sat Jun 11 at 6 PM at the Tennessee Theatre. Tickets: https://www.ticketmaster.com/womens-basketball-hall-of-fame-induction-knoxville-tennessee-06-11-2022/event/1B005C38BD335BB7

Tennessee Valley Players: Musical “Something Rotten”

Category: Music and Theatre

Welcome to the Renaissance and the outrageous, crowd-pleasing, Tony-award winning musical farce, “Something Rotten!” Annual summer collaboration with the Tennessee Valley Players and the University of Tennessee School of Music Choral Area returns after a two-year hiatus!

At Ula Love Doughty Carousel Theatre on the University of Tennessee campus - 1714 Andy Holt Ave. Knoxville, TN 37916

Thu-Sat 7:30 PM, Sun 3 PM

Don't miss this hilarious show by Grammy Award-winning songwriter Wayne Kirkpatrick, and successful screenwriters Karey Kirkpatrick and John O'Farrell, Something Rotten was lauded by audience members and critics alike, receiving several Best Musical nominations and hailed by Time Out New York as "the funniest musical comedy in at least 400 years". Set in the 1590s, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as "The Bard." When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing, and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world's very first musical. But amidst the scandalous excitement of opening night, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self, and all that jazz. Something Rotten features large song and dance numbers, and a wacky cast of over-the-top characters, each given his or her own special moment in the show to shine. Throughout its Broadway run, the musical received a show-stopping standing ovation from audiences... in the beginning of the first act! It's become clear that "nothing's as amazing as a musical!"

TICKETS: Purchase at the box office - as early as 45 minutes prior to the show or online
Prices: Adults and children 12+: $25
Children (under 12): $15

Bennett: Carl Sublett - The Golden Years

  • June 4, 2022 — June 25, 2022

Category: Exhibitions, visual art and Free event

Champagne opening June 4, 11 AM - 4 PM

Bennett is proud to present a retrospective of Carl Sublett’s work post-retirement from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Carl Sublett was a Knoxville local who divided his time between Knoxville and his home in Maine; much of his work is influenced by the landscapes of Eastern Tennessee and Maine. Carl is best known for his landscape paintings and abstract works; his dark color palettes evoke a sense of nostalgia and draws the viewer in with the essences of his works.

Carl Sublett studied at Western Kentucky State College before joining the US Army in 1941. He was stationed in Italy, and after the end of the war Carl enrolled at the University Study Center in Florence, Italy. By 1954 Carl had returned to the United States and was living in Knoxville with his wife and their two children. Carl became a founding member of The Knoxville Seven, a prolific art group, and began teaching painting at UT Knoxville in 1966 until his retirement in 1982. Bennett has been representing Carl and his work since the 1980s. Carl’s influences came from a wide range of sources, most notably his expansive collection of art books and magazines, the work of Marsden Hartley, and his contemporary, Andrew Wyeth.
