7th Tennessee Medieval Faire: Auditions for Street Characters

Darkhorse Entertainment, LLC, invites you to participate in the 7th Tennessee Medieval Faire in Harriman. The festival is seeking costumed street characters and period-related vendors to recreate the early Middle Ages (circa 500) in a theatrical way. The theme is “Live the Age of Chivalry,” performed by interactive characters from the legend of King Arthur.

For those interested in participating as street characters, video auditions will be held by scheduled appointment from July 16-22. Auditioners are asked fill out the audition form, email a recent selfie, and schedule a time to audition. Those auditioning should be prepared to sing, speak in a British and/or Scottish accent, and read a script. Having theatrical experience and an outgoing and friendly disposition are helpful. Agile adults are preferred, but mature and talented minors will also be considered. Audition information can be found at https://tmfaire.com/auditions/.

The Tennessee Medieval Faire is an outdoor themed entertainment-oriented interactive family-friendly festival. Dates are October 1-2, 8-9, 15-16, 2022. Hours are 11am-6pm ET. Dr. Broadway provides an overview of the 2021-22 Broadway at the Tennessee season. Whether you've already purchased a season subscription, are waiting to purchase single tickets, or are just interested in Broadway, learn more about the shows coming to the Tennessee stage this season! This recorded session is led by Dr. Broadway and the shows covered include Come From Away, Mean Girls, Rent, Summer, Hairspray, and Anastasia. Dr. Broadway (Kristin Stultz Pressley) is a Musical Theatre Historian – and one of Broadway’s biggest fans. A passionate and energetic presenter, Pressley has taught theatre at every level – from pre-school to university. She earned her graduate degrees from the University of Kentucky (Master of Arts in Theatre, 2005) and the University of Georgia (Doctor of Philosophy in Theatre, 2011) and subsequently taught Theatre courses at Presbyterian College (Clinton, SC) and Furman University (Greenville, SC).

The Summer Sessions concert series features bluegrass and Americana bands from throughout the region. All shows are free to the public and will be held outdoors at the pavilion in A.K. Bissell Park, 1401 Oak Ridge Turnpike in Oak Ridge or at the Fort Southwest Point amphitheater in Kingston from 6:00-9:00 PM. Bring your lawn chairs and your family and friends for a fun, music-filled evening! Local food and beverage trucks will also be on-site. Art Guild at Fairfield Glade: Annual Golf Tournament

The beautiful Heatherhurst Golf Course (421 Stonehenge Dr, Fairfield Glade, TN) will host the Art Guild of Fairfield Glade 19th Annual Tournament on Friday, July 16 with a shotgun tee-off starting at 7:40 am. More than 20 foursomes have already signed up to participate in this fun event which includes enjoy a delicious luncheon catered by Willow Catering, and a fun and lively silent auction. Please contact the Art Center at 931-707-7249 to check on any remaining available team spaces if you wish to golf in this tournament.

Even if you are not golfing in the tournament, we invite you visit the Fairfield Glade Center (128 Stonehenge Drive) to check out and bid on a wide variety of items, ranging from trips and massages, workouts, gift baskets, golf items, fine art and craft, antiques, and so much more. Cash, check and charge are accepted and it is open to the public.

The golf tournament is an important fund raising event for the Art Guild. Since it was founded in the early 1970s, at the same time Fairfield Glade was being developed, the Art Guild has offered the community a way to teach, learn and inspire new and experienced artists in a wide range of mediums. As a non-profit organization that is entirely run by volunteers, they have outreaches to school age children, high school senior art events and scholarship program, and teaching classes at local senior centers. Although they are supported in part by the Tennessee Arts Commission, they rely on the generosity of the entire community to ensure they can offer enriching art opportunities to local residents and visitors throughout the year.

The Art Guild building, which is called The Plateau Creative Arts Center, is located at 421 Lakeview Drive, between the Druid Hills Golf Course and the library. They encourage you to visit often, and hopefully join this wonderful organization. In addition, to teaching art in the spacious, modern Studio, The Plateau Creative Arts Center has a beautiful Gallery that changes over each month, a wonderful and peaceful Sculpture Garden and Walking Trail, and an enchanting fine art and craft shop, Endless Possibilities.

Tri-Star Arts: Aerial by Mary Laube

Tri-Star Arts is pleased to announce the next exhibition in their main gallery at the historic Candoro Marble Building. A solo show, Aerial, featuring recent work by artist Mary Laube of Knoxville, Tennessee opens Friday, July 15, 2022 and will run through Saturday, September 3, 2022. This show also features a new music video with the Warp Whistle Project (Mary Laube + Paul Schuette).

A public reception will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022 from 5:00- 8:00 pm (artist in attendance). Laube will participate in a Q&A conversation with Brian R. Jobe (Director, Tri-Star Arts) prior to the reception on Friday, September 2 at 3:30pm in the main gallery.

Mary Laube (born Seoul, Korea, 1985) is Assistant Professor at University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She received her MFA (2012) from The University of Iowa, and her BFA (2009) from Illinois State University. Past exhibitions include Ortega y Gasset Projects (NYC), VCU Qatar (Doha), Monaco (St Louis), The Spring Break Art Show (NYC), and Coop Gallery (Nashville). Artist residencies include Yaddo, Wassaic Project, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Vermont Studio Center, and Stiwdeo Maelor in Corris, Wales. Past publications include Art Maze Mag, Maake Magazine, and New American Paintings. In 2019, Mary received the Contemporary Visual Art Bronze Award from AHL Foundation. She is a co-founder of the Warp Whistle Project, a collaborative duo with composer Paul Schuette. Together, they make work that merges kinetic stage sets with music performance.

Handweavers Guild of America: Convergence®

The Handweavers Guild of America 2022 is bringing their international fiber art biennial conference, Convergence®, to Knoxville July 15-21, 2022, to the Knoxville Convention Center. HGA is an international association created to encourage excellence, inspire creativity, and preserve fiber arts traditions through education and community. They invite weavers, spinners, dyers, basket makers, and all fiber art enthusiasts to join their guild.

Marketplace & Demonstrations
July 15-18, 2022 hours vary
Shop for fiber art supplies and original handcrafted goods while enjoying demonstrations. Exhibitors showcase a wide array of yarns, books, and equipment, including specialty items usually only available online. Demonstrations, lectures and activities will take place on the stage in the Marketplace between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM. A Silent Auction is open during Marketplace on the many fiber goodies HGA has collected. All proceeds benefit HGA’s Fiber Trust.

Admission Fees
A $10 Day Pass, which may be purchased in advance or onsite, grants admission to the Marketplace and the Art Exhibits for the day the pass is purchased. Most Special Events are also included.
