Composed in 1992, Phil Kline’s Unsilent Night is a mobile soundscape in which the audience becomes the performer. Each participant plays one of four tracks via an app and a Bluetooth speaker, and the group walks outdoors on a carefully selected route. Jubilee Community Arts: Michela Musolino
Category: History, heritage and Music
Jubilee Community Arts presents Michela Musolino at the Laurel Theater, 1538 Laurel Avenue, on Friday, December 6, at 8:00 PM.
Sicilian-American songstress, Michela Musolino presents the rich, storied music of her ancestral island. Accompanying herself on the tamburo, a frame drum typically played by women, Michela shares songs expressing the joys and woes of daily life for countless generations of Sicilians.
An Italian-American born and raised in NJ, now relocated to Memphis, new projects combine the richness of the South's musical roots with Sicilian folk traditions to create a new sound: Sicilian Folk-a-Billy. The South of Italy meets the Southern US in her recent album (recorded and produced in Memphis) in which Sicilian Christmas traditions marry the music traditions from the American South.
The founder of Rosa’s Drum, a cultural events and educational organization which promotes and teaches folk traditions from Sicily and Southern Italy, Musolino also teaches and organizes workshops on traditional folk dances of those regions.

Knoxville Modern Quilt Guild: Winter Warmer Mini Quilt Show
Category: Exhibitions, visual art, Fine Crafts and Free event
Winter Warmer is presented by the Knoxville Modern Quilt Guild. Twelve members of the guild used a curated color palette and modern esthetic to create works based on their own vision, the only limitations being fabrics and size. The resulting pieces reflect many aspects of modern quilting: use of negative space, minimalism, improvisational piecing, asymmetry, bold use of color. Many modern quilters also learn from, experiment with, and utilize traditional patterns and techniques, while applying a modern twist.
The Knoxville Modern Quilt Guild is for residents in and around Knoxville who have an interest in modern design and quilting. We hope to provide members with a community where modern quilters can meet, share ideas and create in an environment that encourages creativity and acceptance. Our guild is a member of The Modern Quilt Guild.
