Marble City Opera In Concert

Marble City Opera brings a concert of operatic favorites to Oak Ridge on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. The concert will be held at the Historic Grove Theater, 123 Randolph Road in Oak Ridge. The Grove celebrated its 80th birthday in 2024. The performers are soprano Kathryn Frady, tenor Cody Boling, soprano Jamey Owen, baritone Daniel Spiotta, and pianist Brandon Coffer.

McClung Museum: Annual Darwin Day Celebration

Mark your calendars for Sunday, February 23! Charles Darwin is turning 216! Join museum educators and UT scientists at the McClung's annual celebration of Darwin Day, 12:00 - 4:00 PM. Visitors are welcome to engage in family-friendly activity stations exploring themes of deep time, evolution, and adaptation. It will be a party. Come ready to take pictures with a giant Darwin puppet!
Guests may also bring their personal rock collections to be identified by experts.

Intro dance class (7:00-7:45pm)! Kelly Arsenault and Scott Angelius teach a fun class on incorporating Carolina Shag footwork into your dancing!
Cover: $10 for everything, or join us after the lesson for $5. Cash is preferred, but we gladly accept Venmo and PayPal. No dance experience needed: Come listen to the tunes, grab a drink or snack and chill, or learn something new. Everyone welcome. No dance partner required: Whether you're bringing friends or looking to meet some, everyone's invited! All dance styles welcome: Swing, Carolina shag, blues, wcs, salsa, cha-cha, bachata all have rhythms that work well to the music. And, of course, solo dancing is encouraged!

Ijams Nature Center: Annual Seed and Plant Swap

Get ready to swap your seeds and excess plants at the annual Ijams Seed and Plant Swap on February 23!! It is a great way to start your garden at Ijams' annual seed swap! Seed swaps are a fun way to meet other gardeners or plant enthusiasts in the area, learn tips and tricks about your favorite plants, and find out what crops and natives do well in the area or even how to keep your favorite house plant alive! Bring any seeds left from last season's garden, cuttings from your overgrown plants, or extra plants that need a good home, and take some new seeds/plants for your 2025 garden! This also goes for house plants, succulents, or starters that you may have too many of.
This event is free, and you can come anytime between 11 am-2 pm. This event will be held inside the Visitor Center. The Knox County Master Gardeners and Ijams Staff will be here to answer any gardening or seed-related questions you may have! Can't make it to this event, but have seeds you'd like to see go to a good home? Ijams will be collecting seeds for the seed swap through Feb. 20. Feel free to drop seeds/cuttings/extra plants by the Visitor Center during regular business hours (10 a.m.-5 p.m.) if you'd like to donate.

Maryville College Concert Choir: Choral Conert

The Maryville College Concert Choir, Off Kilter, Lads & Lassies will present a concert of choral music with a theme of social and political change. Included in the program will be arrangements of "We Shall Overcome", "If I Had a Hammer", "Blackbird" and "Big Yellow Taxi". Since the choir is touring during the Lenten season, there will also be meditative selections such as "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Esto Les Digo". There is no admission fee.

Visit Farragut: Songwriters Showcase

Visit Farragut, in partnership with Topgolf Knoxville, is bringing an evening of live music to the community with a Songwriters Showcase on Monday, February 24, from 6:00-8:30 PM. The event will take place in the event space at Topgolf Knoxville, 11400 Outlet Drive, and will feature performances by David Haley Lauver, Karen Bowles, and Mitch Townley.
Tickets are free! However, advance registration is encouraged for priority seating. Guests can also register at the door, but seating is limited. A special token of appreciation will be given to a select number of participants, and Kapture Knoxville, a local photo booth company, will be onsite to provide the perfect memento.
All three featured artists are members of the Knoxville Songwriters Association:
David Haley Lauver – A Farragut resident and the education & public relations director of the Knoxville Songwriters Association.
Karen Bowles – A West Knox County resident and board member of the Knoxville Songwriters Association, Karen writes in multiple genres, including gospel, country, blues, bluegrass, and children’s music.
Mitch Townley – An award-winning Knoxville singer/songwriter known for his work in country, Christian country, folk, and inspirational genres. .
This event is part of the Tennessee Department of Tourism’s 2025 Tennessee Songwriters Week, which promotes music venues, supports songwriters, and encourages visitors to experience the rich musical history of Tennessee.
