Jubilee Community Arts: The New Quintet

Honoring the songs and styles that have shaped our country from Traditional Folk to Ragtime, Old-Time and Early Country, The New Quintet features storyteller and musicologist Nicholas Edward Williams (Guitar, Vocals), Emma Dubose (Fiddle, Vocals), Jade Watts (Upright Bass, Vocals), Gordon Inman (Clarinet) and Cody Ray (Guitar, Lap Steel). The ensemble's big harmonies, intricate melodies and lush textures rain upon both original and reimagined traditional material. Since forming in 2020 while making Williams' critically acclaimed release Folk Songs For Old Times' Sake, which has been heralded by well-regarded figures of the roots community such as David Holt, Oliver Wood, Dom Flemons, and JP Harris, The New Quintet has been on stages throughout the Southeast at festivals, concert series, listening rooms and theaters, and will be unveiling their first release in late 2023.

The Knoxville Choral Society proudly presents A Community in Song, an inspiring evening of choral music celebrating light, transformation, passion, and the power of community. Join us on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 7:30 PM at Central Bearden for this special performance. This event features a dynamic collaboration with the 2025 KCS Scholarship Winners and the West High School Singers and Chorale, under the direction of Drew Carpenter, showcasing the incredible depth of talent within Knoxville’s choral community.
Under the direction of Dr. John R. Orr, the program will present a rich and diverse selection of choral works, weaving together poetic themes of renewal and connection. Audiences will experience moving repertoire that highlights the unifying power of song, performed by some of Knoxville’s most dedicated and talented musicians.

End your week with gentle yoga at the McClung Museum. Enjoy breathing, relaxing movements, and stretching, with some calm, meditative moments to ease you into your Friday. We encourage you to wear comfortable clothes that you can move in and bring a yoga mat. Forgot your mat or don't have one? No problem! The museum has a limited supply of mats to loan. No experience is necessary.
About the Instructor: Megan Fields just celebrated her 20th anniversary at UT and currently serves as the Director of Public Speaking. She also lives on campus as a sorority house director and enjoys supporting students. In her free time, she teaches yoga and meditation and enjoys reading and hiking. Her life goal is to share mindfulness practices to stay grounded in this fast-paced, distracted culture.

RED Gallery: Pangrok Sulap: Malaysian Printmaking Collective

Pangrok Sulap, a Malaysian community-collective from Borneo will be in Knoxville for two-weeks in March 2025 leading up to the Big Ears Music Festival. Pangrok Sulap includes “artists, musicians and social activists with a mission to empower rural communities and the marginalized through art.” “Pangrok” is the local pronunciation of “punk rock”, and “Sulap” is a hut or a resting place usually used by farmers in Sabah, Borneo. Artists Adi Helmi Bin Jaini and Zayrul Rizo Bin Osman Leong will collaborate with students and faculty from the University of Tennessee in the creation of a large scale, community-printed woodcut. Accompanied by drumming, Pangrok Sulap prints are created through community participation. During the month of March, prints from Pangrok Sulap will also be presented at RED Gallery with an opening reception on Friday March 7, 2025
