Dogwood Arts Festival: Art Source

Every day, Knox County art teachers devote their time and energy to cultivating creativity and critical skills in their students. For more than a decade, Art Source, the exhibition dedicated solely to Knox County art educators, has given these same teachers an opportunity to nourish and showcase their own artistic talents.
We hope you will join us this Friday, May 4, from 5:00-9:00pm at the UT Downtown Gallery as we celebrate our teacher artists and the opening of the three-week long exhibit! The award ceremony takes place at 6:30pm.

Arts & Culture Alliance: Merleville Watercolor Society

The Arts & Culture Alliance is pleased to present a new exhibition by the Merleville Watercolor Society entitled “Merleville Watercolor Society Hangs It Upâ€, featuring original watercolors and oils by 15 local artists. The exhibition will be displayed at the Emporium Center in downtown Knoxville from May 4-25, 2012. An opening reception will take place as part of First Friday activities on May 4 from 5:00-9:00 PM.
The Merleville Watercolor Society first formed in 2007 when a small, eager group of art enthusiasts met at the home of Merle Hancox-Stair in Maryville. Merle, a seasoned artist, and Kay Alexander, a budding artist, had previously met at a workshop in Boone, North Carolina and discussed the idea of a painting group with whom to improve their watercolors and to encourage one another to develop their individual style. Over the past five years, this initial group of seven artists has grown to include fifteen members: Kay Alexander (Dandridge), Elaine Brekke (Knoxville), Lil Clinard (Tellico Village), Merle Hancox-Stair (Maryville), Mary Holley (Knoxville), Betty Kirkland (Farragut), Bonita Malone (Loudon County), Roy and Kate McCullough (Knoxville), Larry and Helen O'Connor (Knoxville), Rob and Jane Pearce (Knoxville), Doris Prichard (Knoxville), Linda Stutzenberger (Farragut)

This two man tour de force explores one day in the life of Tuna, Texas, the third smallest town in Texas. Veteran FCP actors, Tom Ireland and John Cherry portray an odd mix of characters, 20 in all, who live in Tuna. Ireland and Cherry must don wigs, hats, dresses, accents and personalities as they quickly morph into the various and quirkly residents of Tuna.
Greater Tuna began as a simple party skit over 25 years ago and has become a cultural phenomenon. This hilarious comedy will make you a Tuna fan forever.

Everyone is invited to meet great authors, enjoy captivating storytellers, and listen to toe-tapping music. The fun continues all day long with a mad scientist, a roaming circus, arts & crafts, a bouncy house, and a wagon ride. Free.
1 - 4 pm SPECIAL EVENT: Moving into Nature. You might think you know what Ijams is about, but we have some surprises in store for you. Come discover all the amazing outdoor experiences awaiting you and your family during this special event. Art Market Gallery: Works by T.P. Dunn and Carol Pritcher

Art Market Galley of Knoxville is pleased to present an exhibit of recent works by T.P. Dunn of Kingston and Carol Pritcher of Knoxville May 1 through May 27..
Artist T. P. Dunn, who studied art at UT, will be exhibiting a collection of recent drawings rendered in pencil and charcoal. Throughout his career, Dunn has been involved in both the commercial and fine art worlds. Feeling that there is nothing more inspirational or interesting than the human form, his focus is on figurative subject matter.
Fiber Artist Carol Pritcher will be exhibiting a collection of hand-woven rugs made from fabric strips and a byproduct of sock manufacturing. Pritcher has been an artist-member of Art Market Gallery for over 25 years where she primarily displays woven clothing items. She teaches weaving at the Appalachian Arts Craft Center.
A First Friday Reception for the exhibit is planned for May 4 from 5:30-9 pm with complimentary refreshments and live music.
