Jubilee Community Arts: Scott Miller and Rayna Gellert

Naturalized Knoxvillian Scott Miller, known for his work with the V-Roys and Scott Miller and the Commonwealth, returns to the Laurel Theater for an acoustic performance with Rayna Gellert, following the release of their EP CoDEPENDENTS. Miller and Gellert teamed up after meeting at West Virginia's Mountain Stage.
Raised in Swoope, VA, in the Shanendoah Valley, Scott's genuine interest and identity with the lore of the South and the Civil War, along with his intelligent and take-no-prisoners lyrics, set him apart from other roots rock artists and have propelled him to national and international prominence.
Rayna Gellert, a member of Uncle Earl, is a celebrated old-time fiddler fluent in many styles who has has recorded with Loudon Wainwright III, Abigail Washburn and others.

Blount Mansion: First Friday in October

Featuring the Blount Impeachment Newspapers donated by the Walter and Julia Pulliam Foundation. Blount Mansion will have a special display of newspaper articles featuring the Blount Family and the Blount Mansion Association donated to our collection by the Walter and Julia Pulliam Foundation. Light refreshments will be provided by the Blount Mansion Association and the garden will be open late. Please email info@blountmansion.org for additional information regarding First Friday.
On display will be William Blount’s Impeachment article from 1797. It was published in the Massachusetts Mercury on July 14, 1797. It contains a copy of the letter by which William Blount was impeached by the United States Senate. Blount Mansion is the home of William Blount, Tennessee’s only signer of the United States Constitution, as well as where the Tennessee State Constitution was drafted and signed. It will be an opportunity for all Knoxville citizens to learn about their vital historical importance in the founding of our government via historic newspaper articles in our resident collection. The Walter and Julia Pulliam Foundation, who generously donated the newspaper collection, has a collection of 900 historic newspaper that date as far back to the 1600s. The resident collection is held at Lincoln Memorial University. Blount Mansion is Knoxville’s only National Historic Landmark and is Knoxville’s oldest house museum. It is owned and operated by the Blount Mansion Association, Inc., a nonprofit,
educational organization.

Clarence Brown Theatre: The Little Prince

A crash-landed aviator meets a curious little Prince from a house-sized asteroid while stranded in the desert. As the open-hearted little Prince recounts tales of characters he has met in his intergalactic travels, the aviator is reminded of the simple truths people seem to forget as they grow older. A parable celebrating the wisdom of the innocent, the play is based on one of the most beloved children’s stories of all time.

Fountain City Art Center: Art-a-Palooza

The excitement in the air at the Fountain City Art Center is almost palpable. We are preparing for Art-a-palooza, October 4-6! Art-a-palooza offers 3 days FULL OF ART: art activities, art demonstrations, paintings, prints, pottery, jewelry, decorative items, handmade books, crystal, china, and art supplies for sale, food, music, and even a silent auction with remarkable jewelry, glassware, hand painted chairs and more!
Saturday, October 6, 10 -5 is the BIG DAY for the whole family with art activity tents just outside the Center! We will have eight art activities booths with fun for all ages: paint a mural, get your face painted, make a tie dye t-shirt, make a print, get your caricature drawn, try your hand at watercolor with Kate McCullough, have your photo made as a “Masterpiece,†or visit the children’s multiple art activities and crafts booth. Local artists will be showing and selling their work: paintings, leather, jewelry, pottery, and quilts. We’ll also have hot tamales, fruit pies, chili, and barbecue on buns! Art activities are $5 each, or you can buy a family pass for $20 or an individual pass for $10 and do all the activities. When you buy a pass, you’ll also have your name placed in a drawing for one free year of membership and one free class up to $85. For more information about the music, see the schedule below:

Knoxville Arts and Fine Crafts Center: Rock Cycle class

Students will create models of different types of rocks. Using various tools to observe the characteristics of the three major rock types, students will understand the process through which rocks are formed. Enrichment classes for talented and gifted students and designed for home-schooled children ages 7-14. Offering a hands-on learning experience in the area of science, this program consists of three courses that are four weeks in length. Instructor L’jon Papillon has 33 years of teaching experience with degrees in Gifted Education, Curriculum and Instruction, and Early Childhood. Class fee is $60, and one student per paying adult will be able to take the class for $0.01.

Art Market Gallery: Recent Works by George Rothery and Kathy Lovelace

October 2-28, Art Market Gallery of Knoxville is pleased to present an exhibit of recent works by George Rothery and Kathy Lovelace, both of Knoxville.
Painter George Rothery will be exhibiting a collection of his recent works. A marine artist who concentrates in oils and acrylics, Rothery creates paintings inspired by the South Carolina coast and a nearly lifelong love of the water, sailing and racing. His work can be found in many public and private collections and has been exhibited nationally.
Artist Kathy Lovelace will exhibit a collection of small furniture and home accessory pieces which she has painted to create functional works of art. The Brook, Rainbow and Brown trout found in the streams of the Great Smoky Mountains are the subject matter for her works. Lovelace covers each painting with 10 layers of clear protective acrylic to make them completely functional and durable.
A First Friday Reception for the exhibit is planned for October 5th from 5:30-9 pm with complimentary refreshments and live music.
Member owned and operated by over 60 regional artists, Art Market Gallery is located a 422 South Gay Street in Knoxville next to the Downtown Grill & Brewery.
