Knoxville Zoo hosts Kroger Free Weekend to give everyone the opportunity to visit the zoo and help other local charities who make East Tennessee a great place to live. Visitors are encouraged to bring a donation for one of the charitable organizations who will be on-site at the zoo during Kroger Free Weekend.

Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center: Veterans Day Celebration
This reverent salute to each of the Armed Forces features music, readings & a release of white peace doves on the Saturday closest to Veterans Day.

Knoxville Choral Society: Premiere of Chronicles of Blue and Gray

Chronicles of Blue and Gray is a major work for Chorus and orchestra by Knoxville composer, John Purifoy. It is a musical journey through the familiar songs and emotions common to both sides during the Civil War.
The first part of the concert also features music of the Civil War period by the Choral Society, the Chamber Chorale and the Carson Newman A Cappella Choir. The second half is the 40-minute Chronicles of Blue and Gray with full orchestra and 200-voice choir.

Chronicles was written to honor Dr. Eric Thorson, KCS Artistic Director and Conductor. He and Mr, Purifoy will treat the audience to a pre-concert talk beginning at 6:00 PM. Enjoy re-enactors from the 8th Tennessee Voluntary Infantry in conjunction with the program.

Tennessee Mountain Writers' Fall Workshop

Tennessee Mountain Writers' Fall Workshop will feature freelance writer and Knoxville News Sentinel columnist Ina Hughs in "Right Word, Any Genre" on Saturday, November 10, from 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.at the United Way of Anderson County office in Oak Ridge. Participants will work through things that separate good writers from very good writers, look at a few samples from various writers and poets, and hone their skills through in-class work. Writers of all levels and all genres will benefit and are welcome.

Invitational Choir Festival
Titled “Music for Montvale,†this year’s festival is co-hosted by Harmony Adoptions, a non-profit that helps families through the adoption process, and will serve as a benefit concert for the non-profit’s Harmony Family Center at Montvale. Participating Blount County choirs include the Maryville Singers, directed by Ken Hawkins, and the Alcoa Concert Choir, directed by Trent Gilmore.Representing Knox County will be the Powell Singers, directed by Jim Kennedy, and the South-Doyle Madrigal Singers, directed by John Maples.
Representing Loudon County will be the Lenoir City Singers, directed by Phil Holloway.
Pam Wolf of Harmony Adoptions will address the audience during the concert.
Also featured on the program will be the community high school choir based at Maryville College, the Highlander Chorale, under the direction of Jill Purvis. The program will end with performances by the Maryville College Concert Choir and vocal ensemble Off Kilter.

This annual conference is open to anyone interested in learning more about historic preservation, heritage tourism, and the rich cultural resources of our region. David Underwood: Open to Interpretation Exhibit
This exhibition is Underwood’s 24th solo exhibition. His composite photographs and artworks in other various media are included in the permanent collections of a dozen museums, including The Smithsonian American Art Museum, The California Museum of Photography, The Mint Museum of Art in Charlotte, and the Knoxville Museum of Art. His work has also been included in more than 90 group exhibitions, many of which were juried national or international competitions.
