Foothills Craft Guild Presents Annual Craft Fair In November

The Foothills Craft Guild will be presenting their 46th Annual Fine Craft Fair on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 16 and 17, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 18, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the historic Jacob Building in Chilhowee Park in Knoxville, Tennessee. Featuring the original work of over 160 Tennessee artisans, this event showcases traditional and contemporary crafts of the Tennessee region that are all handmade by juried members of the Foothills Craft Guild.

Best-selling author Dr. Bill Bass is a special guest for the Authors’ Corner and will be autographing books Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Other featured authors are Bill Landry, Sam Venable, Jim Johnson, and Jeri Landers, who will autograph their books on all three days. For great fun, visit the Make It & Take It Booth on Saturday and Sunday where all ages can explore the fun of doing small crafts projects like straw weaving or stamping greeting cards. There will also be daily Craft Demonstrations such as basket making, woodworking, marbling, and spinning.

Admission is Adults $6, Seniors $5, and Children 6 and under free.

Tennessee Stage Company presents a Tennessee Williams Weekend featuring three One Act Plays: Lord Byron’s Love Letter, Talk To Me Like The Rain and Let Me Listen and This Property is Condemned at Broadway Academy of Performing Arts 700 N. Larry Sparks began his career at the top of the profession when he worked with the Stanley Brothers and Ralph Stanley during the late 1960s. He formed the Lonesome Ramblers in 1969, and began a recording career that has established him as one of the top names in bluegrass. A number of songs associated with him have become standards, including “John Deere Tractor,” “A Face In The Crowd,” “I Am The Man Thomas,” “Blue Virginia Blues” and “I Just Want To Thank You Lord.” The Lonesome Ramblers include D Sparks, Mike Feagan, Troy Engle and Tyler Mullins. Their latest Rounder release Almost Home was published in 2011.

Volunteer Princess Cruises is partnering with Scarecrow Foundation to host a Fall Ball Dinner Cruise to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee.

Volunteer Princess Cruises is hosting the benefit event for the Food for Kids program. The dinner cruise will be on Friday, Nov. 16 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Boarding will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Volunteer Princess Cruises has generously agreed to donate 20% of all ticket sales to Second Harvest of East Tennessee to assist in providing food to children in local areas. The goal is to support a school for the entire year in 2013 with a $3,000.00 donation.

There will be a silent auction during the cruise. All auction proceeds will go towards the program. All guests will be served a Thanksgiving inspired, four-course dinner featuring an appetizer, fresh salad, an entrée, and a specialty dessert.

The Hiwassee Class of 1962 is celebrating its 50th year reunion in conjunction with the Hiwassee College Homecoming. The class of 1962, along with Peoples Bank, will present a performance by the VW Boys on Friday, Nov. 16, 7:30 p.m. with all proceeds going to help fund a much needed renovation of the 900 seat Hiwassee Auditorium. The VW Boys were chosen as they personify the Appalachian roots of the Class of 1962.

Hiwassee College would really appreciate your support and attendance. Tickets are ridiculously inexpensive - $10 in advance and $15 at the door. If you like 50's music, a little country and comedy all with a blue grass flavor you'll love the VW Boys.

The Arts Center in Athens is pleased to announce the HOLIDAY TRUNK SHOW, a 3-day indoor show and sale of fine art, crafts, and handmade gifts from local and regional artisans. The Holiday Trunk Show begins November 15th with a preview party and ends on November 17th, and is sponsored by Athens Federal Community Bank.

The show begins on November 15th with a Preview Party from 6:00-8:00 PM. Admission is $5 or recently purchased non-perishable food items for the Coordinated 6Charities of Athens food bank. The Preview Party, hosted by AACA volunteers, features early shopping, refreshments, and door prizes provided by the artists. Holiday music will be by guitarist Oneta Wright. Tickets for Thursday’s Preview Party are available at The Arts Center or at the door.

Other shopping hours are admission-free on Friday, November 16, 10:00AM – 8:00 PM, and Saturday, November 17, 10:00 AM. – 6:00 PM.

A “Twilight Shopping Spectacular”, sponsored by the Athens Downtown Business Association, will take place Friday evening, November 16, 2012, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. The stores of the downtown business district will be open late so visitors may see and shop their holiday selections. During that time, The Arts Center will host “Pictures with Santa” from 5:30 – 7:30 PM, along with the Holiday Trunk Show. The photo package will include one 5 x 7 and 4 wallet size photos. The package price is $10.00. All children are invited to come and have their picture taken with Santa. The photo packages will be available for pick-up beginning 10:00 AM, Monday, November 12.

The November Knoxville Symphony Orchestra Moxley Carmichael Masterworks Concert will feature the music of Brahms, Weber and Korngold on November 15 and 16, 7:30 p.m. at the Tennessee Theatre. The pre-concert chat will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Conducted by Music Director Lucas Richman, the full Knoxville Symphony Orchestra will perform Weber’s Overture to Der Freischutz (“The Free Shooter,”); Korngold’s Concerto in D Major for Violin and Orchestra and Brahms’ Symphony No. 4 in E Minor. Gabriel Lefkowitz, in his second year as Concertmaster of the KSO, joins the KSO as soloist for the Korngold.

The 2012 – 2013 season marks Maestro Richman’s tenth year as Music Director of the KSO, a season which invites retrospection. All music programmed for the 2012 – 2013 season has significant meaning and has influenced Maestro Richman’s musical career.
