Join East Tennessee PBS to celebrate Downton Abbey! We will have a special screening of the first hour of Episode 1, Season 3 at Regal Downtown West Cinema on Sunday December 16th at 5pm.
Please feel free to join us in Downton Abbey inspired costume or as yourself. This is the perfect opportunity to take a break from the holiday madness and treat yourself.
There is no cost for the event but seating is limited and will be on a first come, first serve basis. This is an open screening to the public.

Museum of Appalachia: Christmas Gathering-A Southern Bountiful Feast

The Museum of Appalachia would like to invite you to start a new family tradition, by celebrating the simple joys of gathering around the table with friends and family. On Sunday, December 16, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Museum will offer one of the things it does best, cook and prepare a Southern Bountiful Feast. During the Feast, enjoy Christmas music and carols sung by the open hearth.
After lunch, venture out on the grounds with an old-fashioned wagon ride, where you can enjoy the resourceful, practical and natural decorations of the Appalachian people throughout the Museum’s Village. Special holiday exhibits include the Children’s Display in the Hall of Fame, with toys and furniture made by loving parents and grandparents and Granny Irwin’s traditional Christmas Crazy Quilt.

The Tennessee Stage Company: Shakespeare Out Loud featuring Twelfth Night

The Tennessee Stage Company and Shakespeare On The Square invite you to read Shakespeare’s plays with us – out loud!
Now meeting quarterly we will gather at the Lawson McGhee Library to read one of the plays of William Shakespeare. Our December reading (Sunday December 16th) is Twelfth Night Shakespeare’s last great comedy.
We will meet at 2:00 pm. There will be chairs set up and whoever wants to read out loud can choose one. There will be additional seating for anyone who wants to read along silently. Copies of the play will be available but please bring your own if possible.
EVERYONE IS WELCOME: We welcome all voices, all dialects. ALL READINGS FREE!

Mabry-Hazen House: Annual Christmas Tours

The Mabry-Hazen House invites you to join us for our Annual Christmas Tours. Rooms and other areas will be decorated by well known Knoxville decorators including Samuel Franklin, The Flower Pot, Scott Morrell of Flowers, as well as volunteers and museum staff. The event is free of charge and light refreshments will be served. Christmas Tours are scheduled for Saturday, December 15th from 5-8pm and Sunday, December 16th from 2-5pm. On Saturday, local author Margery Weber Bensey will be signing copies of Park City: A Knoxville Neighborhood History, a perfect holiday gift for your local history enthusiast.
The home will remain decorated and open for regular tours until December 20th. Free to the public, donations welcomed.

Knoxville Zoo: Penguin Discount Days

Knoxville Zoo becomes the coolest place in Knoxville to visit during Penguin Discount Days! Now through Feb. 28, 2013, admission to Knoxville Zoo is half-off.
On days when the temperature drops below 40 degrees, some animals will be moved to their indoor enclosures, but even on the coldest days of the year visitors can still see elephants, gorillas, penguins, reptiles, chimpanzees and bears in their indoor viewing areas.
Half-price admission tickets can be purchased at the zoo ticket office during regular zoo hours and online at www.knoxvillezoo.org. Discounted admission tickets must be used by Feb. 28, 2013, and cannot be combined with any other promotion, discount, or coupon.
Knoxville Zoo is Knoxville’s largest year-round attraction. Located off exit 392 from Interstate 40, the zoo is open every day except Christmas Day. Currently, the zoo is open daily from 10:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Admission and ticket sales stop

UT Downtown Gallery: Paintings by Pat Badt and Ceramic Sculptures by Paul Briggs

The UT Downtown Gallery is pleased to present Revealed, an exhibition of paintings by Pat Badt and ceramic sculptures by Paul Briggs. The paintings and sculptures share a similar modesty in size, creating an approachable and intimate relationship between object and viewer. The work is meditative in process. Lines and leaf-forms vary in length, color, orientation, and proximity to the next. It is repetitive, yet unique.
