Circle Modern Dance: Modern Dance Primitive Light

This 22nd annual production of Modern Dance Primitive Light (MDPL) has become an anticipated solstice celebration of movement and creativity in Knoxville. This unique event provides audiences with an intimate connection with dancers, performance artists, and live musicians while being immersed in the warm ambiance of the Laurel Theater. Rooted in Circle’s own traditions but continually breathing in new creativity, MDPL will feature work from both established and developing choreographers. This performance is appropriate for all ages. Audience members are encouraged to bring pillows as seating is limited.

(Ages 2-3) Are you ready for a snow day? We may not have the white stuff yet, but this program will get us ready for some winter fun! We'll learn about ice and snow and other fun winter weather. Knoxville Zoo: Penguin Discount Days

Knoxville Zoo becomes the coolest place in Knoxville to visit during Penguin Discount Days! Now through Feb. 28, 2013, admission to Knoxville Zoo is half-off.
On days when the temperature drops below 40 degrees, some animals will be moved to their indoor enclosures, but even on the coldest days of the year visitors can still see elephants, gorillas, penguins, reptiles, chimpanzees and bears in their indoor viewing areas.
Half-price admission tickets can be purchased at the zoo ticket office during regular zoo hours and online at www.knoxvillezoo.org. Discounted admission tickets must be used by Feb. 28, 2013, and cannot be combined with any other promotion, discount, or coupon.
Knoxville Zoo is Knoxville’s largest year-round attraction. Located off exit 392 from Interstate 40, the zoo is open every day except Christmas Day. Currently, the zoo is open daily from 10:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Admission and ticket sales stop

The UT Downtown Gallery is pleased to present Revealed, an exhibition of paintings by Pat Badt and ceramic sculptures by Paul Briggs. The paintings and sculptures share a similar modesty in size, creating an approachable and intimate relationship between object and viewer. The work is meditative in process. Lines and leaf-forms vary in length, color, orientation, and proximity to the next. It is repetitive, yet unique.

December 4-30, Art Market Gallery of Knoxville is pleased to present an exhibit of recent works by Eric Gebhart and Elaine Barnes.

Eric Gebhart is a nature and landscape photographer who draws much of his inspiration from the Smoky Mountains.
Elaine Barnes will be exhibiting a collection of her recent works in clay.

A First Friday Reception for the exhibit is planned for December 7th from 5:30-9 pm with complimentary refreshments and live music.

Continuing in the month of December, the gallery will offer artisan-made ornaments for sale to benefit the Community School of the Arts, a non-profit program that provides free instruction in music, visual arts, modern dance and drama to children from underserved areas of Knox county.

Farragut Folklife Museum: An Old Fashioned Christmas

The Farragut Folklife Museum invites the community to visit "An Old Fashioned Christmas" exhibit, on display now through Dec. 28, 2012 (closed Dec. 24 and 25). This special holiday exhibit will feature items from the Museum's collection of artifacts as well as items belonging to Folklife Museum Committee members.

The exhibit showcases a variety of antique toys, games and dolls dating from the late 1800s through the 1900s.

The Farragut Folklife Museum is committed to preserving the heritage of its East Tennessee community and features a remarkable collection of artifacts from the area, including an extensive collection of the personal belongings of Admiral David Glasgow Farragut, first Admiral of the U.S. Navy and hero of the Civil War. Housed in the Farragut Town Hall located at 11408 Municipal Center Drive, the Museum is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and offers free admission.
