Historic Ramsey House: Annual Wreath Making Class

Historic Ramsey House 2614 Thorn Grove Pike in Knoxville, will be taking reservations for our Wreath Making Workshop on Saturday December 8, starting at 12:30pm. Make your reservations now for this popular event as this class fills up quickly. Julia has gotten extra help this year so that we can expand our class to include pomanders and swags along with our traditional fresh green wreaths.
There will be hot mulled cider and holiday treats to welcome you between 12:30 and 1:00. The class will start promptly at one. As in the past you will be asked to provide your own garden gloves to protect your hands and your own garden shears (household scissors are not usually able to cut the heavy stems). If you have any favorite evergreens or berries from your yard that you want to add to your arrangement you are welcome to bring them. All other supplies are included in the $35 charge for the workshop. For reservations, please call Ramsey House at 865-546-0745 Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-4pm.

Hailing from the musical hotbed of Nashville, TN, Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors have found their own unique niche as a dynamic, heartland rock group. In 2007 Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors created a new holiday tradition by embarking on The Neighborly Christmas Tour. Blending Christmas classics with their bluesy, rockabilly style, and featuring a handful of original holiday tunes, the band creates a seasonal atmosphere all their own. Featuring tunes off their album A Neighborly Christmas and new songs from their upcoming holiday EP, Another Neighborly Christmas, this show will surely to put you in the spirit! Call for Entries: National Juried Exhibition of 2013

The Arts & Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville announces a call for entries for its National Juried Exhibition of 2013. The National Juried Exhibition was developed to provide a forum for artists to compete on a national scale and display their work. Approximately 40-50 fine art works encompassing all styles and genres from both emerging and established artists will comprise the exhibition in the main gallery of the beautifully-restored Emporium Center at 100 S. Gay Street from February 1-22, 2013. The Emporium is free and open to the public Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
The deadline for entries to be postmarked is Saturday, December 8, 2012.

The call for entries is open to all artists. Entries must be original works completed within the last two years in the following categories: 2-D (painting, drawing, mixed media, printmaking, photography) and 3-D (sculpture of all media). The nonrefundable entry fee is $40 for up to three works ($25 for Arts & Culture Alliance members and students). Up to three additional entries may be submitted for $7/each ($5 for members/students). Juror: Patrick DeGuira (born 1972) lives and works in Nashville, TN. He has exhibited his work at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, Brooks Museum of Art, Hunter Museum of Art, Cheekwood Museum of Art, as well as numerous commercial, non-profit, University galleries, and is represented by Zeitgeist Gallery.

The Arts & Culture Alliance’s Juried Exhibition of 2011 featured the work of 38 artists in Tennessee, California, North Carolina, Texas, and Virginia.

From a musical family in Dublin, John was sixteen when he went on the road with Chanting House, a group which he formed with Susan McKeown and which eventually included such great players as Seamus Egan, Eileen Ivers, Donogh Hennessy, and Brian Doyle. As a member of Solas, John performed internationally to sold out audiences and appeared on many television and radio programs, including NBC’s Today Show, A Prairie Home Companion, Mountain Stage, E-Town and World Cafe. As part of that critically acclaimed group, he also received three NAIRD awards and a Grammy nomination.

Tickets (if available) will also be sold at the door the night of the event for $15.

Marble Springs State Historic Site: Christmas Candlelight Tours and Stargazing

Marble Springs State Historic Site is proud to present Christmas Candlelight Tours on Saturday, December 8th, from 4-8pm. A star gazing workshop will take place from 8- 10pm.
Experience the historic site through the soft glow of candle light. The historic buildings will be decorated with fresh greenery. Music, open hearth cooking, baked goods & warm drinks will set your heart aglow with holiday spirit. Feel free to stay after the tours are over for the stargazing workshop, covering the topic of “alien moons.” If the sky is clear, Jupiter and its moons will be observed.
Admission $2 donation for the Candlelight Tour, admission for the Stargazing workshop is free.

Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts: Family Holiday Workshops

On Saturday, December 8, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts will celebrate the holidays with Family Holiday Workshops.

Enjoy creative time with family and friends while making beautiful and useful objects to keep or for holiday gifts during the “Family Holiday Workshops” from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Each workshop focuses on a specific media, and all classes are intended for adults and children working independently or together. The cost is $25 per person, which includes all materials & lunch. No experience is necessary, however registration is required. Registration is by phone only. Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts: Christmas Guitar Concert

On Saturday, December 8, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts will celebrate the holidays with the 22nd Annual Christmas Guitar Concert.

For the 22nd year, local & internationally acclaimed guitarist Bill Mize will join Grammy Award-winning guitarist Ed Gerhard for a performance of holiday favorites, as well as selected solo pieces from their own albums. For many, the tradition of this performance “kicks off the holiday season.” The concert will be held in the auditorium at 8 p.m., and seating is limited, so doors will open at 7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the door for $20.

Shanks Center for the Arts: Origami Fun-Fold Day

Saturday December 8 is scheduled as Origami Fun-Fold Day at the Shanks Center for the Arts. Origami is the art of folding paper into creative shapes. An organization named POP Plateau Origami People is having fun sessions for youth and for adults on the same day as the Holiday Parade in Downtown Crossville.

There will be three time frames: 10 am, 12 noon, or 2 pm, each lasting about 1 ½ hours each. Class Fees: for Adults, Teenagers, and Youth $5 per session. Children ages 3 -5 are free. All children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. This is a fun-creative-work time. Register for a session by contacting the Shanks Center, 931-787-1936 or coming by in person, Thursdays-Fridays-Saturdays 10 am - 4 pm or Sundays 1 - 4 pm.

The Shanks Center is located at 140 North Main Street, across from the Depot, Crossville Tennessee. The Center will remain open until 6 pm on the day of the Crossville Parade. Parking is available behind the Center at the corner of Taylor and Thurman Avenues, Crossville.
