10 a.m. HIKE-A-THON BEGINS!! Commencement Speech and opening hike with Vice Mayor Nick Pavlis.
Monday, March 4
12 p.m.: HIKE-A-THON: Discovery Hike with Samantha. Lace up your hiking boots and discover the wonders of wildflowers, animals, and trees at Ijams Nature Center. Open to all ages.
4 p.m.: Nature Fun Station. Join us each Monday afternoon for a different Nature Fun Station. You never know what kind of outdoor fun we'll be digging up each week. These programs are FREE and no registration is required.

10 a.m. HIKE-A-THON: Creek Walk with Stephen Lyn. Explore the creek life and diversity on this fun, watery adventure.
Thursday, March 7
10 a.m. HIKE-A-THON: Wonders of Birding Hike with Lee. If you ever wanted to know about what birds are in your yard or just migrating through, this hike is for you. Open to all ages.
10 a.m. HIKE-A-THON: Little Tykes Hike with Sarah. Bring your little ones out to explore, dig, run and play. Each week has a different theme. Recommended for families with children aged 2-5.
4 p.m. Backyard Birds FeederWatch.
Project FeederWatch is a winter-long survey of birds that visit feeders at backyards, nature centers, community areas, and other locales in North America. FeederWatch data help scientists track bird populations. Join us each Thursday in March as we visit the feeders around Ijams Nature Center to identify and count the visiting bird species. At the end, we'll submit our bird counts to help with this research project. This program is FREE and registration is not required.
Friday, March 8
10 a.m. HIKE-A-THON: Quarry Quest with Lee. If you haven't explored the quarries at Ijams, you are missing a true gem in the crown of Knoxville's outdoor resources. Open to all ages.

Ramsey House is hosting a volunteer training day for old members, new members, and anyone else interested in becoming a part of our community’s heritage! We will review how to give house tours and how to operate the gift shop. This is a great opportunity to brush up on old information and find out some new gems about this historic house.
There will be something for everyone!!

Knoxville Choral Society’s Annual Young Classical Musicians Competition Concert

The Knoxville Choral Society’s annual Young Classical Musicians Competition concert will be held Saturday, March 2nd at 7:30 p.m. in the Knoxville Convention Center Lecture Hall. The concert features performances by the winners of the Young Classical Musicians Competition, as well as selections by the Knoxville Chamber Chorale and the Knoxville Choral Society’s performance of choruses from the Easter portion of Handel’s Messiah and Dan Forrest’s Te Deum. Student winners are John Powers, tuba; Thomas West IV, bass-baritone; and Isabelle Lee, piano. WBIR news anchor emeritus Bill Williams will host the concert.
This concert is funded under an agreement with the Tennessee Arts Commission, a City of Knoxville Community Agency Grant, The Clayton Family Foundation and WUOT 91.9 FM. It takes place on Saturday, March 2, in the Lecture Hall at the Knoxville Convention Center, downtown Knoxville at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at www.knoxtix.com, through Knoxville Choral Society members, or at the door.

Jubilee Community Arts: Roux du Bayou

Accordionist Paul Gregoire from the town of Dulac in South Louisiana leads this Nashville based band, always a treat for Cajun dance enthusiasts. On guitar and vocals is South Louisiana native Wade Bernard; “BIG†Al Henderson on bass and rounding out the group on fiddle, lead guitar and trumpet, from Nashville, Jimmy Clark.
Tickets (if available) will also be sold at the door the night of the event for $12.

Sixth Annual Mardi Growl Parade and Festival

On Saturday, March 2 from 11 am to 2 pm, dogs (in costumes!) and their people will take over downtown Knoxville - all to benefit the work of Young Williams Animal Center!
Put your best foot and your best friend's paw forward to march in the Sixth Annual Mardi Growl Parade and Festival. The parade takes place at 11 am at the Petsafe Downtown Dog Park on the corner of Summit HIll & Central, then proceeds to the Old City to Gay Street, ending on Market Square.
Festivities on Market Square include prizes for Best Costume, Best Naked Dog, Best Owner/Dog Lookalikes, Best Vol Spirit and Most Congenial along with a number of activities, $10 microchipping and pet-related vendors.

Athens Area Council for the Arts: Arts Gala

The 29th annual Arts Gala, sponsored by the Athens Area Council for the Arts Auxiliary is scheduled for Saturday, March 2, 2013 at The Arts Center in downtown Athens, Tennessee. The fundraiser is a celebration of the arts in the area, and everyone is invited to attend. The hours for the event are 7:00 PM until midnight and dressy attire is suggested. Tickets are $75 per person.
Gala 2013 is called THE BLACK BOX GALA and promises a variety of experiences throughout the event. The evening begins with the opening of the silent auction, cash bar, and served hors d’oeuvres. Cameo appearances by selected community talent will grace the stage during the first hour as guests peruse the auction items donated by area artists and businesses. Scheduled to perform during that time are Athens’ own Our Three Tenors and cast members of the recent Athens Community Theater production of ALWAYS…PATSY CLINE who will perform songs from the show. Following the short performances is the oral auction of larger items ranging from art work to trips to jewelry, followed by a cocktail buffet. At 9:00 PM, party band THE BEATERS will take the stage bringing guests to the dance floor until midnight.
Proceeds from The Arts Gala are earmarked to support school and community education in the arts. AACA’s current program of work is on display at the website, www.athensartscouncil.org.

Tennessee Stage Company: Auditions for Shakespeare on the Square

The Tennessee Stage Company will hold auditions for the 2013 Shakespeare On The Square on Saturday, March 2, from 1:00–5:00 pm at the Emporium Building, 100 S. Gay Street.
Auditionees are requested to prepare two contrasting monologues, at least one classical, of no more than one minute each. Please bring two copies of a resume and standard theatrical headshot. All auditions are by appointment only. For appointments please call the Tennessee Stage Company at 546-4280.
The two shows to be performed this summer are Richard III and Twelfth Night. They will run from July 11 – August 11 Rehearsals will begin the end of May.

This Weekend At Ijams!
10:00 am - Hike-a-thon Kick-off
Throw on your hiking boots and join Vice Mayor Nick Pavlis as he helps us kick off the first ever Ijams Hike-a-Thon! After some opening remarks, Mr. Pavlis will lead willing hikers around some of the trails at Ijams. The Hike-a-Thon is a month-long fundraising event for Ijams that will get you out and about in the Urban Wilderness.
10:00 am - 1:00 pm - Spring Cleaning Close-out Sale
You know you can't resist a good yard sale and boy is this a doozy! We have been cleaning out our closets, lab, and gift shop and have collected all the goodies for you! Be sure to stop by and peruse our supply of gifts, t-shirts, books, and lab equipment from yesteryear! We're ready to deal, so bring your reusable grocery bags and best negotiating skills.
6:00 pm - Woodcock Walk
Come see the elaborate courtship displays of the American Woodcock during this guided hike. To attract a female, the male woodcock shows off a combination of squawks, twitters, and aerial acrobatics. We'll meet at Ijams Nature Center, then caravan to Forks of the River Wildlife Management Area. The fee for this program is $5 for members and $8 for non-members. The Arts Center in Athens: “With A Little Help from My Friends†Quilt Exhibit

Opening on March 1 is an exhibit of art quilts entitled “WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDSâ€, produced by Sisters with Artistic Attitude, a sub group of the Village Quilters Guild of Loudon County, TN. This exhibit will remain on display through April 30, 2013. Members of the group embarked on a year and half long project to fashion individual quilts from the pieces and blocks given to them from the other group members.
Each member chose a theme and/or color scheme which formed the basis for the contributions. Each individual created a block each month for another member. Then came the challenge as each member had to merge the contributed blocks of various styles and techniques into a cohesive and attractive finished art quilt.
The public is invited to meet the quilters at an opening reception for “With A Little Help from My Friends†on March 8, 2013, from 5:30 – 7:00 pm at The Arts Center. Light refreshments will be served.

2 Many Pixels Gallery: What She Saw

"2 Many Pixels†photo gallery is proud to present "What She Saw", a beautiful mosaic of images by 3 young women and Knoxville photographers: Shelby Gordon, Erika Smith and Rachel Vykukal. This exhibit is an exploration of the female sensitivity and its transcription through the photographic medium. The photographs are all for sale, gallery archival prints, signed and numbered by the artists. The photos will remain on the walls throughout the months of March and April.
