Bluegrass band Town Mountain from Asheville, NC is Phil Barker on mandolin and vocals, Robert Greer on lead vocals and guitar, Jesse Langlais on banjo and vocals, Bobby Britt on fiddle, and newest member Jon Stickley rounds them out with his steady bass and rock-solid guitar and vocals.

Tickets (if available) will also be sold at the door the night of the event for $16.

US Cellular Stage at the Bijou: Ryan Bingham with honeyhoney

Ryan Bingham
with honeyhoney
Saturday, March 30, 8 p.m.

Ryan Bingham began writing songs at age 17 as an escape from his troubled Texan home life. Now, with more experience and a mantel full of awards (including Oscar, Golden Globe, and Grammy wins), the 31-year old Bingham finds himself back on the road in support of his most recent effort, Tomorrowland. Tomorrowland contains plenty of the pliant acoustic guitar work that has marked Bingham’s previous studio sets, but expands his musical landscape exponentially: guitars howl into keyboards and drums stomp against strings, all bolstered by Bingham’s jagged, weather-beaten vocals.

Category: Exhibitions, visual art

The Knoxville Museum of Art presents Tradition Redefined: The Larry and Brenda Thompson Collection of African-American Art March 22 through June 16, 2013.

Larry and Brenda Thompson have amassed a remarkable collection of art by African Americans from around the nation. The strength of the Thompson’s collecting process lies in their considered attention to artists who have typically not been recognized in the traditional narratives of African American art.

In addition to acknowledged “masters,” the Thompsons have collected works by artists who have been labeled “emerging,” “unknown,” “outsider,” “eccentric,” “vernacular,” “regional” and more. The result is a collection that redefines the landscape of American art, offering a more in-depth, inclusive understanding of African American artists and their aesthetic and social concerns.

Knoxville Museum of Art is located in downtown Knoxville at 1050 World’s Fair Park and is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday 10 am–5 pm, and Sunday 1 pm-5 pm. Admission and parking are free.
