Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter, Ben Rector, from Tulsa, Oklahoma is releasing his fourth album and is embarking on a headlining tour in 2013. Rector is no stranger to the road; he has toured incessantly, rapidly growing a legion of fans and selling out most dates on his previous two headline tours. This rapid growth culminated in the release of Something Like This on September 13, 2011. The record was the No. 1 Singer Songwriter album 5 minutes after its official release, and it climbed above to the No. 4 spot on iTunes overall album charts. Following the release of Something Like This, Rector hit the road again, opening each night on NEEDTOBREATHE's coast-to-coast 'The Reckoning' tour. Rector's songs have been featured on networks such as ABC, USA, Lifetime and MTV.

Arts & Culture Alliance Hosts Techniques for Submitting to Juried Shows Workshop

The Arts & Culture Alliance is pleased to present a professional development seminar for local and regional artists on Wednesday, April 17, from 12:00-1:00 PM at the Emporium Center in downtown Knoxville. Denise Stewart-Sanabria discusses tips on photographing artwork, how to find and decide which exhibitions are worth one’s time, how to increase one’s chances of selection, why certain media is accepted and others denied, and more.
Denise Stewart-Sanabria received her BFA in Painting from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst and has lived in Knoxville since 1986. Sanabria paints both hyper-realist “portraits†of everything from produce to subversive jelly donuts, and full-scale, cut-out charcoal on plywood portraits of contemporary people that she uses to create conceptual installations. Recent exhibits include: “Continuare: The Figurative Tradition in Contemporary Art†at Ewing Gallery at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; the 55th Mid-States Art Exhibition, Evansville Museum of Art, Evansville, IN; “Quantum Confusion" at Appalachian Center for Craft at Tennessee Tech, Smithville, TN; “The American Still Life: Yesterday and Todayâ€, The Bascom, Highlands, NC; “In the Fleshâ€, Target Gallery, Torpedo Factory, Alexandria, VA; and the “26th Tallahassee Internationalâ€, at the Florida State Museum of Fine Arts. Stewart-Sanabria also writes exhibit reviews for Number, an independent arts journal from Memphis, Art Papers, and Art Now Nashville. Bliss is turning 10 and will celebrate their birthday with a party on April 17, at 7PM in Market Square featuring a live performance by Mic Harrison and the High Score and complimentary HOTCAKES.
Mic Harrison is a native of Tennessee, and before he joined The High Score, Harrison was a part of some of Knoxville's most influential bands, like The V-Roys and Superdrag. After Superdrag and The V-Roys disolved, Mic Harrison released a couple solo albums before joining the Knoxville-based band, The High Score. Mic Harrison and The High Score are highly renowned for their distinct musical combination of high octane honky tonk and power pop rock ‘n’ roll.

Flying Anvil Theatre: Forbidden Knoxville Goes Psycho

The best of local humor returns in Forbidden Knoxville Goes Psycho - a musical satire of all things Knoxvegas. Flying Anvil Theatre presents this no-holds-barred cabaret skewering the foibles and follies of naughty local newsmakers and politicians using songs from Carly Rae Jepsen to Elvis to Broadway.
Stacey Campfield? Check. UT Frat boys' unusual drinking habits? Check.TVA, local news casts, wine in grocery stores? They're all covered.
The show is produced by Flying Anvil Theatre's Executive Director Staci Swedeen and musical directed by Christopher Hamblin. Rounding out the cast are Dana Wham, Krisha Newport, Jim Richardson and Bill Howard.
Forbidden Knoxville Goes Psycho runs Friday and Saturday, April 12 and 13, Friday April 19 and Friday and Saturday, April 26 and 27. All shows are at 10 PM. Tickets are $15 at the door. Bliss Home: Dennis Sabo Exhibition

Bliss Home is pleased to present Nature's Splash of Colors, an exhibit by international award winning photographer, Dennis Sabo. Nature's Splash of Colors is an interpretation of the "growing interest and concern for our environmental impact and fragile ecosystems". Each photo is taken of natural, common subjects which are refined into an interpretive collage of color, motion and textures.
Dennis Sabo hails from Loudon, Tennessee where he specializes in contemporary fine art abstract, landscape and seascape photography. Dennis' photography has been featured in a variety of books and magazines, like Blue Planet, Living Southern Style and Ocean Conservancy.

Art Market Gallery: Works by Gay Bryant and Janis Proffitt

The Art Market Gallery of Knoxville will present two exhibits in April: a show of recent works by painter/printmaker Gay Davis Bryant and wood-turner Janis Proffitt, both of Knoxville, and the annual Members Silent Auction, which is a Dogwood Arts Festival Featured Event.
A First Friday opening reception for the exhibits is planned for 5:30 to 9 p.m., Friday, April 5, with complimentary refreshments and live folk and “new grass†music on guitar and ukelele by Molly Rochelson. The reception also opens bidding on a large variety of works by gallery artists and artisans for the annual Members Silent Auction, which will run April 5 – 28.
The Art Market Gallery is located at 422 South Gay St., next to the Downtown Grill & Brewery, and a few doors away from Mast General Store. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m., Sunday. The gallery is handicapped accessible.
