Hailing from Austin, Texas retro-metal band, The Sword knows how to tell a story with their music. Two of their four releases have been sci-fi concept albums that delve in the fantasy world and create a far-out, metaphysical vibe.

Fourth and Gill is one of Knoxville’s most beloved historic neighborhoods, and this is the first time since 2010 that its homes have been open to the public. The Tour of Homes invites guests inside six historic homes, one beautiful new home and stately Central United Methodist Church. Imagine the gracious living of the Victorian and Craftsman eras, and see how our homes have been adapted to life in the 21st century.

The Tour of Homes is a sanctioned event of the Dogwood Arts Festival, and the Fourth and Gill Neighborhood is also the Festival’s original urban walking trail. Guests are invited to stroll the neighborhood’s sidewalks amidst glorious late spring trees and blossoms. Maps detailing the neighborhood’s notable trees and gardens as well as historical points of interest are available for a self-guided tour on the 1300 block of Luttrell Street. Maps are located in a special event mailbox on the west side of the street adjacent to Brownlow Lofts.

For those desiring a more leisurely tour, a red trolley bus, hosted by a tour guide, will be driving the tour route transporting guests to each home.

The Historic Fourth and Gill neighborhood will be holding the 2013 Tour of Homes on Sunday, April 28 from 1:00PM until 6:00PM. Tickets are $10 per person and children under 12 are admitted free. Tickets may be purchased at the Central United Methodist Church, 201 3rd Avenue, during event hours. Tickets may be purchased until 5:00 p.m. the day of the tour.

Victoria Kryah will lead two "make and take" sessions to create a "zine" (small, personal magazine) during the opening. Sessions will be held at 7:30 and 8 PM. While materials will be provided, you may elect to bring a few images of your own to personalize your zine. The event is free and open to the public.

Laundry and Bourbon: The setting is the front porch of Roy and Elizabeth's home in Maynard, Texas, on a hot summer afternoon. Elizabeth and her friend Hattie are whiling away the time folding laundry, watching TV, sipping bourbon and Coke, and gossiping about the many open secrets which are so much a part of small-town life. They are joined by the self-righteous Amy Lee who, among other tidbits, can't resist blurting out that Roy has been seen around town with another woman. While the ensuing conversation is increasingly edged with bitter humor, from it emerges a sense of Elizabeth's inner strength and her quiet understanding of the turmoil which has beset her husband since his return from Vietnam. He is wild, and he is unfaithful, but he needs her, and she loves him. And she'll be waiting for him when he comes home—no matter what others may say or think.

Lone Star: The play takes place in the cluttered backyard of a small-town Texas bar. Roy, a brawny, macho type who had once been a local high-school hero, is back in town after a hitch in Vietnam and trying to reestablish his position in the community. Joined by his younger brother, Ray (who worships him), Roy sets about consuming a case of beer while regaling Ray with tales of his military and amorous exploits. Apparently Roy cherishes three things above all; his country, his sexy young wife, and his 1959 pink Thunderbird. With the arrival of Cletis, the fatuous, newlywed son of the local hardware store owner, the underpinnings of Roy's world begin to collapse as it gradually comes out that Ray had slept with his brother's wife during his absence and, horror of horrors, has just demolished his cherished Thunderbird. But, despite all, the high good humor of the play never lapses, and all ends as breezily and happily as it began.

Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8:00 PM and Sunday at 3:00 PM. Tickets are $10 plus fees for Thursday & Sunday performances and $15 plus fees for Friday & Saturday performances. The play is based on the Newberry Medal-winning novel by Patricia MacLachlan. Ashlee Latimer will direct the play.

The play is set in the western United States during the late 19th century. Jacob Witting, a widowed farmer who is still saddened by the death of his wife during childbirth several years earlier, finds that the task of taking care of his farm and two children, Anna and Caleb, is too difficult to handle alone. He writes an ad in the newspaper for a mail-order bride. Sarah, from Maine, answers his ad and travels out to the Western Territories to become his wife and begin to become a mother to the children.

Bliss Home is pleased to present Nature's Splash of Colors, an exhibit by international award winning photographer, Dennis Sabo. Nature's Splash of Colors is an interpretation of the "growing interest and concern for our environmental impact and fragile ecosystems". Each photo is taken of natural, common subjects which are refined into an interpretive collage of color, motion and textures.

Dennis Sabo hails from Loudon, Tennessee where he specializes in contemporary fine art abstract, landscape and seascape photography. Dennis' photography has been featured in a variety of books and magazines, like Blue Planet, Living Southern Style and Ocean Conservancy.

The Art Market Gallery of Knoxville will present two exhibits in April: a show of recent works by painter/printmaker Gay Davis Bryant and wood-turner Janis Proffitt, both of Knoxville, and the annual Members Silent Auction, which is a Dogwood Arts Festival Featured Event.

A First Friday opening reception for the exhibits is planned for 5:30 to 9 p.m., Friday, April 5, with complimentary refreshments and live folk and “new grass” music on guitar and ukelele by Molly Rochelson. The reception also opens bidding on a large variety of works by gallery artists and artisans for the annual Members Silent Auction, which will run April 5 – 28.

The Art Market Gallery is located at 422 South Gay St., next to the Downtown Grill & Brewery, and a few doors away from Mast General Store. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m., Sunday. The gallery is handicapped accessible.
