Rising from the streets of New York’s ghettos to television superstardom, Jimmie Walker personifies the great American success story. His catch phrase “Dyn-o-mite!” is part of the modern vernacular, and he became such a major celebrity in the 1970's that Time Magazine named him “Comedian of the Decade. He was the first winner of the NAACP Image Award, and won a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. He appeared on The Mac Davis Show, Donny and Marie, The John Davidson Show, The Merv Griffin Show, Dinah, The Mike Douglas Show, The Hollywood Squares, and the Match Game.

TICKET PRICES: $8 for general admission, $10 for preferred seats online. All tickets via phone or at the door are $2 more per ticket. All tickets go up $2 on the day of the show.

The New Black is a documentary that tells the story of how the African-American community is grappling with the gay rights issue in light of the recent gay marriage movement and the fight over civil rights. The film documents activists, families and clergy on both sides of the campaign to legalize gay marriage and examines homophobia in the black community's institutional pillar - the black church and reveals the Christian right wing's strategy of exploiting this phenomenon in order to pursue an anti-gay political agenda.

East Tennessee PBS presents Community Cinema

East Tennessee PBS will host six screenings of films from the Emmy Award-winning series Independent Lens as a new participant in Community Cinema, a groundbreaking public education and civic engagement initiative by The Independent Television Service (ITVS), producer of Independent Lens and other documentary film programs.

More than 95 cities participate in Community Cinema, a film series that brings together leading organizations and community members to learn about, discuss, and get involved in key social issues of our time.
After each screening, community leaders will hold a panel discussion addressing the issues broached in the films. Participating panelists will be announced in advance of each screening.
All screenings will be held at the East Tennessee PBS studio, at 1611 East Magnolia Avenue in Knoxville. Screenings are free and open to the public. Doors open an hour before screenings begin.

In the half acre surrounding their home, Ileen has planned her garden so that there is something in bloom throughout the year. Farragut Folklife Museum: "Honoring Our Veterans" Exhibit

Features artifacts from various branches of the military and numerous wars, including the Korean War, Vietnam War, World War I and II, and Desert Storm.

The Farragut Folklife Museum Committee will host a special reception on Veteran's Day - the final day of the exhibit - from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the museum. Local veterans are invited to attend to be honored, view the exhibit and enjoy light refreshments.

Class will begin with topics on materials, palette, and composition. We will cover various techniques of drawing along with preliminary charcoal sketches, value and color studies, and fundamentals of color mixing in order prepare for the final painting. Classical approach of monochromatic under painting, directed observation and application of color, followed by glazing techniques will be discussed and shown. Class will consist of lectures, slide analysis, and individual critiques, while the student paints his or her own landscape. Students will bring their own reference material to paint from, whether it is a photograph or a small color sketch.
