An evening of "Classic Bluegrass" at GSM Heritage Center amphitheater. Tickets $5.00 per person - per concert. GSMHC members are FREE. Children 5 and under are FREE. Tickets are available at the door the night of the concert. No advance ticket sales.

You are welcome to bring lawn chairs. Refreshments available for purchase through intermission. No coolers, food or drink may be brought into the concert. Sorry, no pets permitted, except for service animals.

The Farragut Folklife Museum Committee will host a special reception on Veteran's Day - the final day of the exhibit - from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the museum. Local veterans are invited to attend to be honored, view the exhibit and enjoy light refreshments.

The Blount Mansion is commemorating the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 with a traveling exhibition, Becoming the Volunteer State: Tennessee in the War of 1812. The exhibit will be on view at the Blount Mansion Visitors Center from June 10th, 2014 until August 19th, 2014 during our regular business hours: Tuesday – Friday, 9:30 – 5:00, Saturday, 10:00 – 2:00.

Combined 5 day Landscape and Still Life Painting Workshop

Class will begin with topics on materials, palette, and composition. We will cover various techniques of drawing along with preliminary charcoal sketches, value and color studies, and fundamentals of color mixing in order prepare for the final painting. Classical approach of monochromatic under painting, directed observation and application of color, followed by glazing techniques will be discussed and shown. Class will consist of lectures, slide analysis, and individual critiques, while the student paints his or her own landscape. Students will bring their own reference material to paint from, whether it is a photograph or a small color sketch.

AMSE Science Explorer Camp for rising 5th (must be 10 years old by June 1, 2014), 6th and 7th graders at two identical one-week sessions June 9 – 13 and June 16 – 20 at Freels Bend Cabin in Oak Ridge. The AMSE Science Explorer Camp, sponsored by the American Museum of Science and Energy Foundation, costs $150 for AMSE members and $175 for non-members. Each camp session runs from 8:00 am – 3:30 pm Monday through Friday. The camp session also includes a tour Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the American Museum of Science and Energy.

Marion Greenwood in Tennessee, will feature paintings, lithographs and other works on loan from local collectors who purchased them from Greenwood when she was a visiting UT professor from 1954-55. The show will also feature a 13-foot mural, Man's Partnership with Nature, which was installed in the Crossville, Tennessee, post office in 1940, and graciously loaned for the entirety of this exhibition. The Tennessee Treasury Department's Section of Painting and Sculpture commissioned Greenwood to paint the work, which depicts the impact of a Tennessee Valley Authority dam on everyday life.

Bliss Home is pleased to present Knoxville photographer, Brian Murray, for June's First Friday. Bliss Home will host an opening reception on Friday, June 6th from 6pm to 9pm. Complimentary Steamboat Sandwiches will be provided and Brian's art will be featured for the month of June.

Brian Murray is a local photographer who has been honing his photography skills for the past twenty years. Brian's concentration is on local landmarks and historical buildings. He has had prints in several exhibits including the Arts in the Airport, Dogwood Arts Festival, National Art Exhibit at the Emporium, Knox Heritage Architecture Tour, and Art Alliance Exhibit at the Mayors' offices. Brian is a resident artist at Bliss Home and sells his prints there and at the Market Square Farmers' Market.
