Introducing: Good Sport Night, a new series presented and programmed by The Central Collective. Here's the deal. You purchase a $20 ticket to a mystery event. Show up to The Central Collective at the specified date and time, and be ready for anything. You might walk into a baby goat petting zoo, or a punk rock concert, or a blind chocolate tasting, or a lecture about the Big Bang. These are events for folks who are curious, adventurous, and like trying new things & meeting new people. That's all we can tell you, but know that we are SO EXCITED for our first Good Sport Night, and you should be, too! Worried that you won't be able to participate because of food/alcohol restrictions, physical ability or other preferences? We'll do our best to give you the information you need to decide if this month's Good Sport Night is right for you. If you have any concerns, don't hesitate to give us a shout! If you show up and cannot participate for an unforeseen reason, we're happy to give you a credit for a future Good Sport Night. (Note: unless specified, you can assume these events aren't geared towards little ones)

Parish Kohanim for a presentation and reception Tuesday, March 22.

The event, "Parish Kohanim: A Creative Journey," is free and open to the public. The reception will begin at 6 p.m. with the presentation to follow at 7 p.m. in the Goins Building Auditorium on the college's Hardin Valley Campus, 10915 Hardin Valley Road.

Kohanim is an award-winning commercial, landscape, portrait and fine-art photographer and has been a member of the Canon "Explorers of Light" since 1994. The "Explorers of Light" program recognizes influential photographers and cinematographers who then share their passion and expertise through seminars, exhibits and other appearances. The Pellissippi State presentation is sponsored by Canon "Explorers of Light."

During his presentation, Kohanim will discuss his own techniques and take audience members behind the scenes of some of his major assignments. Kohanim's photographical focus is on finding beauty in any environment, and he will also offer best practices for everyone to enhance their creativity and vision.

The reception will begin at 6 p.m. with the presentation to follow at 7 p.m. in the Goins Building Auditorium on the college's Hardin Valley Campus, 10915 Hardin Valley Road.

Divining examines the dual relationship present between place and inhabitants. As people live within a specific place, it forms or changes their perspective and identity; similarly, people have a high degree of impact on both urban and more natural spaces. Kelsey's work examines these ideas further using the language of printmaking to create a large-scale immersive installation, including collaborative efforts on the accompanying soundscape with students Alex Gray and Ryan Stennes, both currently in the music program at the University of Tennessee.

The Town of Farragut Arts Council presents artist Marianne Gansley as the featured artist for March. Located at the Farragut Town Hall, the exhibit highlights jewelry made with a variety of vintage items such as buttons, clock parts, typewriter keys and other vintage pieces.

Gansley began making jewelry 11 years ago after inheriting her French grandmother's button collection. After playing around with these antique pieces, she decided to give them new life by creating wearable art. Her inspiration for these upcycled pieces came from the earth-friendly lifestyle that she has been accustomed to living. Gansley soon found that she could incorporate other vintage objects into different types of jewelry. Gansley's latest work can be viewed on her Facebook page at facebook.com/littlesunshinejewelry.

Each month, the work of an artist or group of artists is featured in specially designed cases on the second floor of the rotunda in the Farragut Town Hall. Bliss Home is pleased to present new artwork by Knoxville artist, Lindsey Teague, for April's First Friday! Bliss Home, located at 29 Market Square, will host an opening reception on Friday, April 1st from 6pm to 9pm. Complimentary treats from Wild Love Bakehouse will be provided and Lindsey's art will be featured for the month of April.

Lindsey Teague graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a BFA in Graphic Design in 2009. She is a freelance graphic designer with over 7 years of experience in the design field. She has worked with clients on every level from billion dollar corporations to first time small business owners. She volunteers her photography skills, which have been awarded by AIGA, by teaching inner city children photography workshop classes. She gives back to her community and various non-profit organizations by donating art, design work, and photography. She uses her spare time to refine her fine art work which has been showcased in over 12 First Fridays in the Knoxville area and will be presented in the Dogwood Arts Festival this spring.

Lindsey's April exhibit is inspired by what is meaningful in her life such as the people, places, and the history of this scruffy little city by the river. Lindsey's art process begins with taking photographs then she vectors the images down and prints them on wood boards. Along with an interesting texture, the wood carries an organic tone which is representative of the surrounding natural landscape. Each board is stained with an acrylic based paint to add a little vibrancy and contrast.

The Central Collective will host a First Friday Art Opening and Reception on March 4 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. featuring new work by local artist Beth Meadows. Refreshments will be served and the event is free and open to the public.

Closing Reception on Wednesday, March 30, 6:30-8:30pm, Artist Talk at 7:30. Light refreshments will be served and the event is free and open to the public.

The exhibition will feature fashion-themed drawings and paintings. Meadows has been creating artwork along these lines for several years but has only recently explored the subject using traditional materials such as paint, paper, and canvas. This is her first solo exhibition in Knoxville since 2014. Original artwork as well as fine art prints will be for sale during the entirety of the exhibition. Meadows lives and makes artwork in Knoxville, Tennessee where she graduated with a BFA in Studio Art in 2007. She grew up in Memphis but decided to settle in East Tennessee mainly because of her love for the Smoky Mountains. She co-founded and manages 17th Street Studios near downtown Knoxville, serves on the Biscuit Art Committee for the International Biscuit Festival, and shows artwork frequently around Knoxville. Start Your Spring Cleaning! Changing a life has never been easier! Dry cleaners in Knoxville, Oak Ridge, Clinton, Farragut, Maryville, Sevierville, and Morristown are lending a hand by collecting donations during Project Wear and Share, an annual donation drive for Goodwill throughout the month of March. Donations are sold in local Goodwill stores to generate funds for Goodwill's job training programs and employment services. Recent works by painter Lynda Best and pipe maker Ron Smith will be on display March 1, 2016 through March 27 at the Art Market Gallery. An opening reception for the featured artists will begin at 5:30 p.m., March 4; with complimentary refreshments and music performed by Em Chitty Turner and Brian Sward (easy swing jazz, vocal and guitar).

Lynda Best of Tellico Plains has taught in public schools and has also been instrumental in starting many art organizations in the places she has lived including Monroe County. Her works are displayed and sold nationally. She specializes in original impressionistic, contemporary paintings of nature.

Ron Smith's introduction to the burl of the white heath tree, aka briar, began at the Iwan Ries shop, just around the corner from Chicago's Art Institute. Last year he attended the International Pipe Makers Seminar at Chicago. He is inspired by the Danish school of pipe making; modern, natural and organic in forms which highlight the grain and the outer plateau of the briar.

The Art Market Gallery is a unique gallery because it is owned and operated by more than 60 of the best professional artists in our regional area. It is located at 422 South Gay St. and is conveniently located just a few doors away from Mast General Store and next to Downtown Grill & Brewery.
