Tennessee Stage Company: The Philadelphia Story

Tennessee Stage Company's eighth Timeless Works benefit production of Phillip Barry’s classic comedy, The Philadelphia Story at the Historic Southern Railway Station, 300 West Depot Avenue.

The Tennessee Stage Company, known to Knoxville audiences for Shakespeare On The Square and the New Play Festival returns to our Timeless Works series this autumn with the Phillip Barry’s classic comedy, The Philadelphia Story, a romantic comedy about a society wedding gone hilariously wrong in the hours leading up to the event.
The Philadelphia Story is a collaboration with the Historic Southern Railway Station, operated as an event space by Blueslip Winery. This beautiful structure makes a perfect backdrop for the simplicity and whimsy of our Timeless Works productions.
Timeless Works was conceived by the Stage Company as a benefit series to help raise funds for our other programs: Shakespeare On The Square, the New Play Festival and our Education and Outreach programs. All the artists donate their time and talents and all funds raised go directly back into the work of the Company.

Clayton Center for the Arts: Trace Adkins

Part of the Clayton Center for the Arts 2017-2018 season!
Trace Adkins’ trademark baritone has powered countless hits to the top of the charts and sold over 10 million albums, cumulatively. His hit list includes “You’re Gonna Miss This,” “Ladies Love Country Boys,” “Songs About Me,” “Every Light In The House,” “Hillbilly Bone (Blake Shelton & Trace Adkins),” and “Just Fishin’,” to name a few. The Grammy-nominated member of the Grand Ole Opry is a TV personality, actor, author, spokesman for the Wounded Warrior Program and the American Red Cross, for whom he raised over $1.5 million dollars as winner of NBC’s All-Star Celebrity Apprentice. In recent years, Adkins has performed 10 USO Tours.
In his 2007 autobiography, A Personal Stand: Observations and Opinions from a Freethinking Roughneck, the former oil-rigger recounted his rise to fame, brushes with death, and battles with personal demons. Trace has played a tough as nails biker in The Lincoln Lawyer (starring Matthew McConaughey), and a wise oracle of a tattoo artist in the family-friendly film Moms’ Night Out (starring Patricia Heaton, Sean Astin, Sarah Drew). He also developed and hosted GAC’s “Great American Heroes” honoring every-day heroes.

The East Tennessee Society of the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) and the McClung Museum present Dylan Bloy of University of Tennessee’s Department of Classics, giving the lecture “Romans, Lombards, and Antiquarians at the Roman Villa of Vacone, Italy.”
Lectures are held at 7:30 p.m. in the McClung Museum Auditorium and are open to the public and free of charge. A reception will follow each.

UT Arboretum Society: The Bats of Tennessee

It’s Bat Time at the UT Arboretum on Thursday, November 2nd at 6:30pm. We know that bats eat mosquitoes and help pollinate plants but there is so much more to this mysterious creature. Sponsored by the UT Arboretum Society, this family friendly program will be led by Pandy English, the Assistant Chief of Biodiversity for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
Beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the UT Arboretum Auditorium, 901 S. Illinois Avenue in Oak Ridge, the program will include a PowerPoint presentation, bat “show and tell” items, and children’s activities at the end. Attendees will learn about bat myths and facts, the characteristics and types of bats in Tennessee and why bats are one of our most invaluable species.

Knoxville Writers' Guild: Novelist Julia Watts

Come to the Thursday, Nov. 2 program of Knoxville Writers’ Guild, when veteran novelist, Julia Watts, will share her methods for creating story beginnings that invite the reader to keep reading. Watts will also discuss how she handles both negative and positive feedback during her writing process. The event will be at Central United Methodist Church, 201 Third Avenue, in the Fellowship Hall. Plenty of well lit, free parking. Admission is a suggested donation of $2. The area is wheelchair accessible, with complementary hot coffee and snacks.
Ms. Watts is the author of over a dozen novels, including the Lambda Literary Award-winning “Finding H.F.”, the Lambda Literary and Golden Crown Literary Society Award finalist, “The Kind of Girl I Am,” and the Lambda Literary Award finalist and Golden Crown Literary Award-winning “Secret City.”
She holds a B.A. in English from The University of Tennessee, an M.A. in English from the University of Louisville, and an MFA in Writing from Spalding University. She lives in Knoxville and teaches at South College and in Murray State University's low-residency MFA in Writing program. Her latest two projects have been collaborative, the novel “Rufus + Syd,” co-written with Robin Lippincott, and “Unbroken Circle: Stories of Cultural Diversity in the South.”

McClung Museum: Toys for Tots Gift Drive

McClung Museum Store will proudly partner with the U.S Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program as a Toy Drop-Off site this holiday season. From November 1–30, university and local community members are encouraged to help a child in need by donating a new, unwrapped gift for children up to 14 years old, or purchasing a new toy from the Museum Store for donation.
The Museum Store will also have appropriate gifts for purchase for Toys for Tots, including games, stuffed animals, stocking stuffers, kids’ books, adult coloring books and pencils, jewelry, and more. Need guidance? See the Toys for Tots FAQ for more information. Donations will be accepted in the Museum Store during museum hours. All Toys for Tots donors will receive a free gift.

Arts Council of Roane County: 6th Annual Open Show

The Arts Council of Roane County is honored to present our Sixth Annual Open Show at the Rockwood Visitor Center and Museum, 241 Rockwood Street, Rockwood TN 37854.
The Arts Council is committed to promoting art and artists to the community and this event showcases some of the best art from around the region. Awards will be given for Best of Show, First, Second, and Third places in the adult category and for First, Second and Third places in the student category.
The reception will be Thursday, November 2 from 5:00 till 9:00 PM at the Rockwood Visitor Center and Museum. Tickets are available from ACRC members, the website and at the door for $10, children under 10 get in free. Hors d’oeuvres, wine, and soft drinks will be served. All money earned will help fund future activities of the Arts Council.
