Improvisations, heard weekdays 6:30 to 8 p.m., is produced and hosted locally by Ben Hall (Mondays), Todd Steed (Tuesdays & Thursdays), Paul Parris (Wednesdays), and Chris Woodhull (Fridays). Improvisations is curated by a dedicated lineup of jazz fans with over 70 years of jazz radio experience. Our playlists reflect every era of jazz from the earliest New Orleans swing to last week's best releases. We strive to keep the show interesting, listenable, and enlightening and entertaining. Make room in your closet and help others at the same time! Seeking professional clothing and coats for individuals in need in Knoxville. Women's clothing will be donated to the YWCA and Connect Ministries Career Closet. Men's clothing will be donated to the Knox Area Rescue Ministries (KARM). This 2020 Drive combines the annual KBA Barristers Professional Clothing Drive and the annual Coats for the Cold Drive.

Items needed are slacks & skirts, suits, blouses & shirts, dresses, ties, dress shoes, coats, jackets, parkas, rain coats, dusters. Please do not donate clothing wit holes, stains or rips. No undergarments, swimsuits, or intimate apparel.

The Knoxville Barristers are lawyers who are members of the Knoxville Bar Association and who are under 36 years of age or who have been practicing law less than five years. Probably no other local bar association and group of young attorneys work harder or have a more diverse list of public service opportunities than those right here in Knoxville. Children's Museum of Oak Ridge, 461 W. Outer Drive, Oak Ridge TN 37830

Considered a versatile painter who works in vibrant colors, bringing energy and rhythm to each work, Mike C. Berry creates urban compositions that bend and twist the cityscapes that have become his identifiable style. His paintings consist of gestural brushstrokes and pure bright color. He credits the work of Wolf Kahn, Edward Hopper, and Knoxville artist, Joseph Delaney for encouraging his use of color, line and the cityscape as subject matter.

"Urbanscape" is the latest exhibition of small works by the artist. This body of work features the city of Knoxville as the main subject, but also illustrates the energy of our American urban landscape and cultural expressions. This exhibition includes paintings and drawings, as well as prints and notecards of previous works.

“Cumberland County Woodturners” is the special Themed Gallery Exhibit for October.

Cumberland Woodturners is an organization whose goal is to advance the skills of wood turning on a lathe. Their skill levels range from novice to professional, and the organization has a mentoring program to assist others in improving their skills. Members have access to an extensive library of wood turning resources. On the second Saturday of each month, the woodturners present a hands-on workshop.

The changing monthly displays at the PCAC include a wide variety of art mediums: painting, drawings, photography, ceramics, wood creations, glass mosaics, jewelry, fabric creations, card art and much more! The artwork is available for purchase.

Featured artists are Jennifer Lindsay, Bead Weaving and Donna Conliffe, Mixed Media Artist.

Jennifer Lindsay started doing bead weaving over 15 years ago. She is inspired by the colors and shape of natural to mix colors and beads to make the pieces.

Donna Conliffe: Painting is an evolving process for me often inspired by poetry, music, stories, and experiences. Much of my work is considered narrative or abstract. Working on canvas or wood I begin by adding mediums, multiple layers of paint, image transfers, writing, collage, metal etc., at the start. Mixed media painting allows me to enrich my work in many layers as it progresses. My diverse background, in the area of three dimensional art, of clay, fiber, glass, bookmaking and paper, provides me a variety of methods to incorporate in my work. Combining an assortment of materials and a mixture of techniques encourages my creativity. That’s what art is all about to me.

Awaken Coffee will host an opening reception for artist Lesley Eaton Friday, Oct. 2 from 6-8 pm. Lesley’s recent work is a collection of experimental pieces focused on the application of materials themselves, mostly acrylic and fluid paint, along with water-soluble crayon.

“There is an overwhelming sense of joy to these pieces, even more so when they’re sitting next to one another, and even though they don’t all match and some are quite loud. It’s not unlike living in the middle of a renovation project with four children; it’s joyful cacophony.” – Lesley Eaton.

The show is thematic about the creative process. Each painting highlights a particular emotion from the moment I get the energy, through completing a project, and back to having no idea.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2: “Fun and Wine Friday Art Reception” to celebrate the members’ monthly art exhibit, enjoy the artwork of featured artists, Anette and Al Hansen, and view the artwork of the Cumberland County Woodturners in September’s special gallery exhibit. Reception attendees should practice social distancing, including wearing face masks. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9: Basic ARTiE Training (short for ART in Electronics): ARTiE is an electronic whiteboard that provides many tools to enhance teaching, learning, and presentations at the Art Guild’s Plateau Creative Arts Center (PCAC), 10:00 ¬a.m. – 12:00 noon. Open to AG members only. Class is free-of-charge, but those who want to attend must register for the class. Maximum class size is six students.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13: Paint Along with Sam Hill, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon. Cost is $20 for AG members or $25 for guests. Students should bring their own watercolor supplies.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15: Chain Mail Jewelry and the Helm Weave Bracelet, with George Gallant. 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Cost is $30 for members or $35 for guests. $25 materials fee payable to the instructor. Number of students: minimum is 3, maximum is 6.

A free reception with the artists will take place on Friday, October 2, from 5:00-8:00 PM. All visitors to the Emporium are asked to wear a mask and maintain physical distancing guidelines. Most of the works are for sale and may be purchased through the close of the exhibition.

The League of Scruffy Photographers presents a new exhibition that continues to look at Knoxville through the eyes of 30 talented, local photographers. In a year when many people wish they could have a “do-over” or a time machine to avoid 2020, these photographers examine life surrounding us and how we feel during this “unprecedented time”. And, like many who want to reflect on pre-2020 as if it were the Good Old Days, some of the images are from the not too distant past. This exhibition has been curated by designer Elizabeth Avedon.

WTF is a collection of past and newer work pertaining to the social and political issues that have been happening in our country: a chaotic collection which reflects the social climate of today. Enjoy the disorder and confusion, look around, reflect, ponder, and think to yourself... WTF.

Antuco Chicaiza’s work poetically documents his life, his family and friends, his travels and relocations, and his cultural identities and political beliefs. Like a layered visual diary, his works gather evidence of the events and forces that have affected him deeply. Chicaiza’s early work drew upon his childhood memories in Ecuador. These works were representational in style and emphasized both social injustice and the peoples’ strength and pride. Later, his work described his own journey, reflecting in his words, “any injustice or prejudices I was affected by”. Chicaiza has shown his work in solo exhibitions including at Casa HoLa and Gallery in Knoxville, TN; Clayton Center for the Arts, Maryville, TN; The Rose Center, Morristown, TN; The Nashville International Airport, TN; Latino Arts, Inc., Milwaukee, WI and the Embassy of Ecuador, Washington, DC. His many group exhibitions include “Immigration, Migration, and Movement at Arizona State University” and “A Sense of Place” at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art, Augusta, GA.
