We miss you Knoxville, and although we aren’t back to normal, we are hosting safely spaced events at The Mill & Mine via our “Pods”. We’re excited to begin offering Gameday Pods and Halloween Movie Pods the month of October! Pod sizes range from 2-10 people. Each pod offers your group their own space to hang out, safely distanced from others.

Reserve your spot either inside the venue or outside on the courtyard lawn via Tako Taco’s Resy page. For all pods, check in at the Tako Taco hostess stand to be seated. Food and beverage from Tako Taco available for purchase, both by walk-up ordering and by QR code without ever having to leave your spot. For everyone’s safety, masks are required any time you are not in your pod.

The play will be performed Fridays at 7 PM, Saturdays at 1 PM and 5 PM (no show at 5 pm on the 31st), and Sundays at 3 PM

Knoxville Children’s Theatre, in partnership with the Clayton Foundation and the Tennessee Arts Commission, will present a live production of Shakespeare’s “The Tempest.” “The Tempest” is traditionally considered Shakespeare’s final work and, as such, is sometimes seen as a kind of artistic farewell. Whether the Bard of Avon actually thought in those terms or not, we’ll never know; but the play is certainly among his most poetic. KCT’s version is adapted to 90 minutes and is geared for ages 12 and up.

Tickets will be limited to 60 attendees for each performance and groups/families will be distanced from each other. Masks will be required for entry.

Prospero, a magician of sorts, is also the deposed Duke of Milan. Usurped by his treacherous brother, Antonio, Prospero and his daughter Miranda are marooned on an exotic island, which is home to the sprite, Ariel, and Caliban (which Shakespeare describes as a deformed savage). Prospero uses his magic to subdue the island and compel both Ariel and Caliban to do his bidding. Twelve years later when Antonio’s ship sails close to the island, Prospero conjures a storm to bring his brother and his party to the island.

The play is performed by 15 talented young actors, from ages 13 to 17.

Who is the woman in the window, the man in the uniform, and the child playing hide-and-go-seek? On this special candlelit tour (which lasts about 30 minutes), learn all about the spirits that still roam the rooms and grounds of Historic Ramsey House. Before and after your tour, enjoy s'mores and refreshments around a warm bonfire and folklore and ghost tales told by storyteller, Janice Brooks-Headrick.

Tickets are $12 per person (kids 12 and under are free). We are only allowing one (1) household/group (up to 10) per tour at this time. We HIGHLY recommend that visitors reserve your tour in advance, either online or by calling ahead of time. One (1) ticket represents a reservation for your entire household/group. Please note that this is just to reserve your time. Payment will be taken upon arrival.

COVID-19 Policies

Hey it’s 2020! So this year we are doing something different!
It’s time for Greek food and pastries to go! Instead of our traditional Greek Fest, the parish of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Knoxville will offer “Greek-To-Go” on Friday and Saturday, October 30 & 31.

For those wanting Pastries Only, we will have an “Early Bird” Pick Up opportunity for you on Thursday, October 29, from 4 – 8pm! This date will have Pastries Only. Online pastry orders will begin Friday, October 23.

Come and experience the taste of authentic Greek food and delicious Greek pastries. The most popular items from our traditional Greek Fest will be offered by way of a drive-thru pick up on the church grounds. Hours both days will be 11am – 7pm.

We will offer two combination plates featuring Gyros and Souvlaki (grilled pork tenderloin kabobs) as the entree. Also available will be favorite pastries…Baklava, Kourambiedes (powdered sugar-covered butter cookies), and a Deluxe Assortment box including those and other pastries.

As the evenings get darker and the first hint of winter hangs in the air, the western world enters the season of the dead. It is time when restless souls, vengeful spirits, and mythical creatures can more easily cross the plane between the two worlds. With All Hallowed Eve’s approach, it is a time when ghost stories and haunted tales more easily cross into the realm of our daily lives as these accounts help us remember the dead and contend with the unexplained. Along with the historic buildings, grounds, and family history, Mabry-Hazen House also preserves a darker history of Americans' experiences with death, funerals, spiritualism, and the occult. For the second year, the historic house museum will exhibit those macabre, yet fascinating cultural moments during their Victorian Séance Experience.

Mabry Hazen House will host “A Victorian Séance Experience” inside the parlors of the 1858 historic house. Relying on primary sources from the nineteenth century, Mabry-Hazen House will reenact a Victorian séance and give “investigators” an immersing experience filled with “mysterious and startling wonders.” Under the guidance of a Victorian medium, the séances will follow the rituals of nineteenth century Spiritualism and investigators will participate in historic “demonstrations” of mediumship. Whether true manifestations of spirits or clever parlor tricks, sitters at the séances will experience this eerie, yet ubiquitous aspect of 19th century American life.

Flying Anvil Theatre presents a streamed horror play at The Mill & Mine in a socially distant premiere.

Flying Anvil Theatre presents The Deadline, a new play for Halloween, described as “The Blair Witch Project Meets War of the Worlds. .. on a Video Call” in a socially distanced premiere screening on October 29th at The Mill & Mine. The Deadline can also be streamed from October 29-31 at 7:30 each night.

The Mill & Mine has hosted “Pod Events” since September, and Flying Anvil hopped on the opportunity to create an event that would bring their halloween performance to the “big screen” while keeping everyone’s health and safety in mind. With ample amounts of indoor and outdoor space, audience members purchase a “pod” which is distanced from all other pods. They can order food and drinks on a special menu from Tako Taco via a QR code at their table, and everything is delivered straight to their space. Masks are strictly enforced, enhanced cleaning measures are in place, and capacity is limited so everyone feels comfortable.

Creating a way to present safe theatre has been a part of Flying Anvil since the beginning of the pandemic. Keeping audience members safe and comfortable is only one of the challenges. Making sure actors, designers, and technicians chances are also kept at a low risk of exposure of the Coronavirus is also paramount.

Artistic Director, Jayne Morgan, wrote this new horror play after the success of her first virtual play Branching Out.
The Deadline is being shown on screen at The Mill & Mine for $15 a person, or may be watched on any computer or cellphone and be cast to a TV. A streaming pass for the show is $20, and an email containing a link to the show will be received after ticket purchase. Blount Mansion is partnering with Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel and Crematory to offer special FREE Halloween evening tours Thursday, October 29 through Saturday, October 31. Gone to Rest: Funeral Customs Through History takes visitors on a hauntingly historic trip into the past. The experience begins in our garden with Cherokee tales and spooky stories from colonial days, continues inside historic Blount Mansion with a chilling exploration of death and dying in the 18th century, and concludes with a look at creepy Victorian funerary traditions inside the circa-1818 Craighead-Jackson House next door—featuring “corpse photos” and a wreath made from the hair of the dearly departed!

Jack-o-lanterns in our garden are provided by Pratt’s Country Store in Fountain City.

Tours take thirty minutes, and begin every half hour at the Blount Mansion Visitors Center at 200 W. Hill Ave. on the following dates and times:
