Akima Cabaret: The Roaring 20s

The Roaring 20’s - When Decades Collide

What happens when a pandemic is over? What happens when stories collide? What happens when decades overlap… a hundred years apart? The Roaring 20’s… that’s what!

A hedonistic and debaucherous way of life seems to be a recurring theme once a pandemic is over, whether it is the Spanish Flu Pandemic of the early 1920’s or the COVID pandemic of the 2020’s. The Roaring 20’s was a time of men in tuxedos and women in flapper dresses partying like there’s no tomorrow. Now, get ready for a flashback as 2022 ushers in its very own version.

“The Roaring 20’s - When Decades Collide” is a fast-paced show set in 2 different speakeasies… one in 1922 and the other in 2022. The show is filled with music and dance from both time periods and will have you on your feet ready for a little party.

We hope you join us for “The Roaring 20’s - When Decades Collide” at The Mill & Mine in downtown Knoxville! Saturday night is sold out!! But you can still join in the fun on Friday, February 18th, at 7:00 p.m. and a matinee on Saturday the 19th, at 2:00. Dinner and dancing will follow each evening performance.

River & Rail Theatre Company: In The Next Room (or The Vibrator Play)

Category: Theatre

Set in the 1880s at the dawn of the age of electricity, scientist Dr. Givings has innocently invented an extraordinary new device for treating "hysteria" in women (and occasionally men): the vibrator. Adjacent to the doctor's laboratory, his young and energetic wife Catherine wonders exactly what is going on in the next room. When a new "hysterical" patient and her husband bring a wet nurse and their own complicated relationship into the doctor's home, Dr. and Mrs. Givings must examine the nature of their own marriage, and what it truly means to love someone.

We love this play for its humor, honesty, and magical healing.

*Production contains sexual content and partial nudity.
